Michigan's Governor has a lot to do with that. Most of the serious growth is in areas that have opened back up. Thank god a referendum was passed by voters limiting our Governor's Emergency powers and breaking that up.

Depending on the field of employment, it doesn't matter where you live as long as you have reliable internet service. I live in BFE SC and work for a company based in CA, the company before that was based in VA, and before that was based in the UK. I realize not everyone has the skill set to do these types of jobs, however more and more "traditional" organizations are willing to go remote for the right folks. For some it may be the right time to change career paths because their previous has become a dead end.

As far as severance packages being discussed, I think I've had one in my career. That was a company that sold our department to another company that you could keep your job if you relocated (no relocation assistance provided) and kept the same pay (way higher cost of living city). I opted to take the 3 months of pay and stay where I was at the time, took me a few weeks to find another spot so I had 3 months of pay on top of getting a bump in pay from the new job. Severance I don't expect really, much less pension or anything like that.

I'm working from home right now. I've had one severance package as well. I was laid off Jan 4th. 2018. I was called back on Feb. 18th. I had already interviewed for the job I have now and when they called I put in my notice. Got two months plus the vacation time I would have gotten. The new job was a considerable bump in pay. Right now people with my skills and experience are in high demand. I got called in last May to be told I got a 12% raise and called in again in September for another 6%. Don't tell the Company this, but, I like what I do and do it for fun.

I'm just waiting for the day to be told I have to resign with no benefits or go get the jab. If it happens it's gonna be a bad day for the company I work for, when the entire company comes crashing down. Maybe each time they call me asking for access to another system I built for them, I'll charge them a hefty fee for contract work or just give them the middle finger. Haven't decided yet, but there are plenty of jobs with less experience needed, paying about the same as I make now so I'm not too worried.

I'm in the same boat as you, I actually enjoy my job quite a bit. That being said it can be stressful and there can be long hours in some cases, so it's not for everyone, in fact we've had several people since I started in June that have left for other roles internally or externally.

The 18% bump happened to me at another role years back, I also called them out on it as well. This is a "please don't quit" bump in pay isn't it? That was part of it apparently, they were having trouble retaining cyber security staff. In fact a lot of clients I work with have trouble retaining cyber security staff, which when you dig down into it, comes down to compensation and work/life balance. If I can get another 40% at another organization that has priorities and policies set so they don't burn you out why wouldn't I look elsewhere? These orgs that are unable to adapt are going to be in a really bad state when their core SMEs quit or retire.

I totally lived this!!!!
I worked for a company, I was in IT. They totally took advantage of me and I let them for too many years.
Well I went on Maternity leave and they wouldn't let me tack on vacation time (even HR said almost all departments allow it) So I gave them the big ol' middle finger and left forever. Even without the vacation I probably would have still left.

The most hilarious thing, there is no way anyone in the entire company would know my system
It was easy to me. I had things automated in a way that it would take a few minutes what would take others days.
At one point they wanted me to teach people some of my "methods" I told them that I can't teach a career lifetime to people and they dropped it. Back to the story, I left and they were calling and asking all kinds of questions, the few calls I took I played so dumb and just said I don't know or don't remember. My insiders told me they were saying up a ton of work to pile on me when I got back. That still makes me laugh.

Same, I do IT work as well. I have the only set of keys to their entire mobile device management system, which means every employee would immediately be affected. How would they update the yearly certificates without access? Who is going to figure out all the policies, configurations, automation, etc.? And that's just one system. I control all the LAN/WAN security and networking as well. I guess they could hire a new IT guy, reset all the networking gear to defaults to gain access, but would need to reconfigure everything and I'm sure you know the amount of work involved in that. But that MDM system would cause some serious pain.

I'm still laughing my butt off, and I know YOU know what I'm talking about!!

The other thing about IT folks...........we know secrets, all the dirty little secrets, secrets they don't know we know.

That's what I thought as well. A please don't quit raise. I figure that they are monitoring my work computer. I keep up to date on jobs that I qualify for. I have no intention of leaving. I'm near the top of what I can make where I live. I have no desire to move and they've actually taken pretty good care of me.

I liked the last place I was at as well. We designed and built Point of Purchase displays. Did some pretty complex ones. Not allowed to mention who for because of disclosure agreements. We put in some long hours though. From July 5th 2013 until Thanksgiving Day 2013 I did not have a day off and averaged 10 hours per day, with some 72 hour stints tossed in. Again, got to play with some cool toys. Became an expert in 3D printing and it's capabilities, batteries and battery packs, LED lighting, plastics and polymers and their properties and even became a certified Applications Engineer for an adhesive Company's products. Much of that is helping me out now.

Definitely know where you're coming from and yes I know some really dirty secrets about certain things, but I wouldn't even need to go there. But hey, there are some really smart people in IT, so maybe I'm overestimating my worth, but doubt it.

Who owns the corporations ?

Who Runs The World? Blackrock and Vanguard

If you’ve been wondering how the world economy has been hijacked and humanity has been kidnapped by a completely bogus narrative, look no further than this video by Dutch creator, Covid Lie.

What she uncovers is that the stock of the world’s largest corporations are owned by the same institutional investors. They all own each other. This means that “competing” brands, like Coke and Pepsi aren’t really competitors, at all, since their stock is owned by exactly the same investment companies, investment funds, insurance companies, banks and in some cases, governments. This is the case, across all industries. As she says:

“The smaller investors are owned by larger investors. Those are owned by even bigger investors. The visible top of this pyramid shows only two companies whose names we have often seen…They are Vanguard and BlackRock. The power of these two companies is beyond your imagination. Not only do they own a large part of the stocks of nearly all big companies but also the stocks of the investors in those companies. This gives them a complete monopoly.

A Bloomberg report states that both these companies in the year 2028, together will have investments in the amount of 20 trillion dollars. That means that they will own almost everything......

Who owns the Most Pfizer Stock ?????
Top investors of Pfizer stock

Vanguard and BlackRock

I learned a long time ago to never piss off your IT guy. Strange things can happen if you do that. They are a strange bunch. Their sense of humor is almost as bad as those who serve on subs. A good IT guy is worth their weight in gold.

Yes I am sucking up. I don't know who you are or where you are at and can't take the chance that you are one of OUR IT guys.

😂🤣

Just a little sidebar,
You wouldn't believe how much people look at p*rn at work 👀 but the people in IT know

Another sidebar, I also learned that most people do not get fired for looking at p*rn. One time there was this guy, he had a huge family, sole earner.
He got fired for looking at it, but they stressed that it was because it was some "really different stuff". I just laughed, it was as if they were saying normal stuff was A OK! I never found out what he was looking at but my guess it was some really out there stuff...

Yeah, I could probably ruin an exec's career if I wanted, but that's not the type of person I'd like to be. Regarding humor, just imagine, I got a little of both IT and submarine humor in me. My humor is on point though, so we'd have to disagree on that aspect.

I don’t know, but what I see they are going to lay off un vaxxed soon most likely by the 10th with a line of folks waiting to fill those jobs, these are high paying critical government jobs.

With the civilian sector I deal with, the same thing. These jobs are hard to get before the damn virus.

I believe it. A while back we had an Engineer who was all straight laced and religious. He ended up getting fired. At the time I was the IT guy for the company (small company) and was told to clean off his computer. I started going through the hard drive and open one file and closed it and shut down the computer fast. I went, got the Company credit card, left and came back with a new hard drive. I took the existing one out to the shop floor and drilled holes through it. I then wiped everything out on his machine and checked the network. When I opened a file in that folder it was kiddie porn. I destroyed it, made it unrecoverable. That still makes me uncomfortable.

When I worked for the advertising company one of our clients was a Nationally known women's clothing chain. One of their branches had clothes for young women. When you designed their displays you built a 3D computer model of the display with the artwork (pictures or images) so that you could check sight lines. Even though we had documentation that showed that all of the models were over 18, if the wrong person looked over my shoulder when I was working on them it could have been awkward. The displays were nightwear and underwear for 12 to 18 year old girls. I didn't mind the main line's artwork (never thought they were that good looking) but, their Reps that came to us were something else. I left one meeting with them and was heading for the door. My Boss asked where I was going and I said "Home for a cold shower."

The current administration does not want people working and wants to cripple businesses. Bottom Line. There is no other reason.

When people are working they do not need assistance or reliance on the Fed.

This is another way to stunt growth in the US. It is f'd up to be very honest but I would expect nothing less from the current Obama 2.0 Admin.

Companies were growing under 45 and that is no way to control a populace. Hence COVID and the lockdowns and now the continued restraints.
