Another time traveler captured in time?

Why would someone that has the ability to time travel use something like a phone to record past events?
Surely if this "traveler" has access to technology to transcend time itself, he must have access to advanced and rather less conspicuous methods of recording, for example button cameras.

how do you know its "just a phone"?
just because it LOOKS like what we would call a "cell phone" does not mean thats it has the capacity of one.

it may be a device that records EVERYTHING from pictures, sound, air density, chemical composition of the performers instruments, and can get enough data to create a "holodeck" projection of what it recorded.

hell it may even be also a "time transporter" as well

Just look at star trek TOS tricorder and the medical scanner.

it looks like a simple purse or "camera bag".
but it is an advance scanner and computer on its own that can analyze about anything. Then tell you what it is.
with a medical scanner the size (a trekkie will get this) of a small salt shaker that does what an MRI, CAT scan, and about any medical test you can think of. then tell you what is wrong and treatment for almost all races and alien species.

so having something look not to advance is better for hiding it

You've missed my point. If the traveler could make it look like anything, or had the ability to hide his recording device, then why make it look like something that appears to be out of place to some people who suffer from severe pareidolia? Besides, if the traveler can traverse time itself, he surely must have the ability to completely hide his recording... smh

It is a musical instrument in his hand with his signature hand position whilst holding it. That is all it is. Some people have overactive imaginations, lol.

Yeh at first glance it looks like he is speaking to whatever he is holding in his hand, but just after the guy across from him leans in and speaks so they are clearly having a conversation over the table.

Just a thought here, would a time traveler be a known person? I mean Sonny is a known guy, a famous bluesman in his own right. Would not a "real" time traveler be a stranger just trying to blend into the background of whatever he or she is observing?

Thats exactly what I thought it was at first (small book) but as the camera angle changes you can see all the holes for the harmonica

I can see that too, only reason I went with book/bible was the way he was holding it, and gestating to his friend. Both are likely but yeah harmonica makes more sense seeing as they are in a music club! Certainly a little more likely than a time traveller with a Google Pixel anyway

i think one of the best of these is the person ion camera at the Tyson fight in the 80's and someone in the crowd is CLEARLY holding a camera phone

Sonny Boy Williamson II was an American blues harmonica player, He was an early and influential blues harp.
Now one could just know these facts (looking at you guitaristRob) or, spend 2 minutes googling his name.
I went through the trouble to actually Google his name. What I found under images were pictures of Sonny boy Williamson II holding his harmonica. You’ll notice right away it’s held in the same hand and, in the same style as seen in the posted photo/video.
Here’s the thing, I’m not 100% sure it’s a harmonica. However it seems more likely A harmonica than anything else given the facts. Also no self-respecting blues man would go anywhere without his harp.
I mean come on GuitaristRob you know that.

Some harmonica players have seemingly awkward grips. Could be simply because that's how they prefer it, like some musicians hold their microphones, guitars, saxophones, or the way they sit at a piano. It could also be due to a medical condition like arthritis.

And back then... those old school cats pretty much created this attitude and flamboyance that billionaires today couldn't understand or get.
