When I was a child, no hospital expected to receive a profit from providing care to those that needed it. Doctors and nurses worked for what people could afford to pay, and for goods and services.
At the end of each quarter, the hospitals sent their loses to the federal government and they were reimbursed for the services provided. Dollar for dollar. No elevated pricing. They broke even.

Sounds like a very equitable system.

Well get ready to get worst, we need room for the 1.5 million illegals that will be filling out the hospital and urgent care clinics very soon.
The homeless and destitute will be piling up under the by pass.

What has been created in medicine is not medicine, it is big business. We need to get rid of our present type of medical industry here and go to socialized medicine where the people working in it get a decent wage not dependent on overcharging people and insurance companies that people actually pay the bill for one way or another. Remember, if your employer is paying for your insurance, he is not paying you as much and insurance is really expensive, you would be better off paying for socialized medicine because your wages would go way up. Twelve grand a year is nothing for an insurance premium, most are higher than that for a decent policy.

No one cares about you except the people who truly care about you and that's the harsh reality of life. The government does not care and rules do not equal compassion or quality either one.

I was in a motorcycle accident in 2006. I tore the ligament in my right hip pretty bad, and had some good road rash I cleaned myself. I had a giant purple black bubble hip joint that is still all kinds of damaged internally and acts up regularly. I didn't go to the hospital immediately because I had no insurance and no motorcycle license.
The next day my girlfriend made me go because when I woke up I was in shock from multiple injuries. I still do not know what injuries I had, because they would not even run imaging and diagnostics on me when I told them I had no insurance. They speculated dismissively about what was wrong with me and rushed me out with a script for pain meds.
Injury took about a year to heal before I could walk right. I have broken many many bones and am not a complainer. I screwed something up bad that will be coming back to haunt e for sure. Doctors didn't care at all.
I was disappointed in the way things work. That was the first time I really actually went for help that I needed and was laughed out. Funny thing is, I am not for universal health care. I am just saying that I should have been able to get some level of help. Diagnostics should be free since they are trying to sell the cure anyway. All they did was make sure I was not going to be able to sue them before they kicked me out.

Nurses, doctors, all medical professionals may have gone into the profession to save lives, for the love of medicine, education and skill set to help mankind.

Should health care be considered a human right?
Does the USA need some kind of universal health care system?
