www.cfr.org...

Once settled in the United States, refugees are generally in the hands of charity and other volunteer agencies that specialize in resettlement. The State Department’s Reception and Placement Program provides funding to go toward refugees’ rent, furnishings, food, and clothing. After three months, this responsibility shifts to HHS, which provides longer-term cash and medical assistance, as well as other social services, including language classes and employment training. Following the reductions to the refugee admission ceiling, all nine nongovernmental agencies that assist with resettlement have downsized, closing offices or laying off staff.

Its a hell of a predicament, ile give you that, and one that must be managed as opposed to being dumped on the doorstep and left alone to sit there.

My county council seem to have solved that issue by housing some Syrian refugees in old boarded up shops in town and were converted into restraunts or music/entertainment venues - everyone in the restraunt, including the refugees who made/served the food sat in a big circle on the floor when eating and shared stories, useful phrases, shared culture and the unspoken rules of British society.

It provided a proper platform for the refugees to socialise and integrate into society which is probably the biggest probem in the UK a we're generally a very reserved bunch so it's pretty imposible to integrate and socialise, especially in a rough area.

It saved thousands of pounds and the restraunts are still open after several years and very succesful/profitable, it gave refugees a role in society, people could share food, learn new things, improved the look of the town centre and provided pretty much all the means to properly adjust and integrate into society. Though I'm pretty sure the council only did it a handful of times then reverted to dumping people on estates with no ability to work, interact and adjust to the new country and culture..

Right now the refugees here are in a remote rural area. It is an old military base, but actually reminds me more of a prison community. Odd situation all around. Don’t know they they will dump them into the surrounding areas.

If the government can’t take care of them they should not have been brought here.

We are the government since we keep voting for the same f***tards that started and sustained that war which created the issue to begin with.

Unfortunately that’s true.
Amazing right, 2.3 TRILLION dollars spent for the “war”, but not enough for winter wear for these people.

Ive lived my entire life near the Mexican border. There has always been illegal immigration and very obviously so in the county I grew up in. It was manageable and wasnt a complete disaster for the Americans living there.

I can never go home again because it no longer exists. The county commissioners and the governor have declared a state of emergency and a disaster area. Overrun by invaders set loose by the feds but expected to be absorbed by the locals. It is a complete nightmare nobody else seems to give a fig about. The single reason I supported Trump (and held my nose).

Most of these people deserve some empathy, we messed up their country and then failed to do something when the SHTF over the summer.

I’m getting low in the empathy department. It’s a hard knock life out there and there are a lot of local people suffering, kids suffering, seniors suffering, Veterans suffering, Afghans brought here by poor political actions is pretty low on my list.

Bastion have you any idea how many council and association properties are all boarded up and left to rot down to them being deemed unfit for people to live in across the nation?

Coz its a lot.

At one point near enough entire tenement housing stock in certain housing schemes ticked that box.

If there is one thing this nation requires in spades its affordable accommodation and houses for the people who live here.

And as you suggest what your council seems to have implemented provided a proper platform for the refugees to socialise and integrate which is 9/10th of the battle imho.

Canny understand why we are not doing the same to similar thing across the island given the extreme need and demand for both homes and jobs.

I have enough to go around for all of the above, when that changes is when I should consider ending it all.

Will you have empathy when 12-13K “refugees” are flooding your area?

Oh no doubt, it’s sad as heck. The entire situation is wrong from every angle. What we have spent on that way. What we have done there, and now bringing these people to a place so far removed from their environment it is almost humorous.
What are these people going to do when it get -38 degrees with windchill here?

Some may think I don’t have empathy. Maybe I have the most empathy by being realistic.
By questioning why weren’t these thing thought of before bringing them here. You don’t think people need winter clothes in Wisconsin? What happens if the local communities and charities can’t or won’t supply it? This is a very real possibility and seems to be happening.

I get solicited to give to charity every time i venture in to the town centre from they muppets with clip boards praying off other peoples misery.

End of the day they made charity a business rather than a service in some respects which is why I'm rather ambivalent to contribute.

Fact of the matter remains if you dont wish to give to charity you don't need to.

I would rather slip some poor homeless sod a £10 for a bag of kit or bottle of wine when im in the readies.

At least that way you know the cash monies actually reached the intended target audience without 75% of such being garnished by big business.

They call those guys "Chuggers' round here - Short for "Charity Muggers".

Mate i live in Glasgow, most years our Summer and Winter clothing are not really that different.

I take your point all the same.

I would have imagined there would be some form of federal assistance given or issued should communities and charities not be able to coup.

Over here they would would probably call it some form of community care grant and issue them with money or more than lightly vouchers that could be used to purchase appropriate clothing.
