I love playing Roblox, been playing a few years now .
My son (10) lives across the Atlantic in another country from me , so we have little contact.
Playing Roblox is one thing we can do , playing and chatting. Yes we use whatsapp to chat and play at the same time as well, but
that's not the point. It's not always possible to use both.

So I've noticed some ridiculous censorship going on! Saying '# you ' and ' I will kill you ' is fine , but ' kisses ' or kiss emotes are censored!
I've also noticed a lot of my Dutch is censored , but other languages , mainly Arabic I notice never is.
I will see endless walls of Arabic with not a single incidence of censorship , but just saying 'mamma houdt van je' (I love you ) in Dutch is censored

I'm getting so fed up with it!
I know the game is free , but I do pay every month for a subscription (premium) and bought extra on top of that multiple times as well.

what's up with this stupid censorship, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed this?

These companies will keep pushing censorship until it hurts their bottom line. But it seems the majority of people don't actually care enough to leave the platforms that are censoring

I would guess it has to do with rampant pedo activity. Kids do love Roblox.

Okay , understandable but why is saying '# you' allowed then still? Kids shouldn't hear that language either, though my 10 year old son unfortunately has picked it up already a while now, possibly from youtube/roblox.

Do you translate the Arabic to determine whether its something that should be censored? Or do you just assume because its Arabic that it must be saying something that should be censored?

By # you, are you meaning that literally or is that self-censored for ATS. If you literally mean "#" then that alongside "kill" are probably not on their block list.

I doubt they have extensive sentence recognition and probably just use keyword replacement... and like others have said due to other unwelcome activity they have added in "kisses" and "love" to the list.

It is unfortunate for you, but I think I'd probably rather it force you to use WhatsApp if they think its actually a serious way to prevent child abuse/grooming

Years ago there was so little censorship that a couple of entire games made it through with nude models and sex acts. My nephews were exposed to porn at a very young age because someone posted links urging them to go the sites.

Any game with children playing them should be censored IMO.

I think it's odd that the phrase "I love you" is censored. Is it the entire phrase, one word or part of a word?

I used to play a mobile game (Summoners War) a lot, ass in assassins is censored, it comes out looking like ******ins. I don't know the dutch language so I don't if part of any of those words could be an offensive word.

Corporate censorship ABSOLUTELY makes no sense. It'd make more sense to actually make a ship and call it 'censor'.

In any case, I understand your plight, even though there are bigger worries in the world - I am going to rant about something equally, or maybe even more petty, but the source is the same; corporate greed and confusion about what's right and wrong, because corporations don't have souls or hearts, so they can't make proper decisions for the good of the people, only try to follow the leftist confusion about what should and what shouldn't be part of free speech.

I can think of many similar incidents that have happened to people...

- In a game where the F-bombs, talking about 'surprise bedroom fun', drugs and such are commonplace, everyday thing that's everywhre, all over the place, someone got muted for weeks for, after playing for hours, in the heat of the moment, saying something like 'How can you (referring to the whole group) play so stupidly?". F-bombs all over the place, no one gets muted even for a second. Insults rampant, 'you are a failed abortion', etc. Constant 'autist' and 'troll' accusations everywhere.. not to mention, really bad grammar.

- In another game, someone wants to say 'get the flag', but accidentally makes a typo in the hectic situation (who among us can be expected to type 100% accurately in hectic situations?), and leaves out the L. Gets banned from the game.

- In another game, where it used to be possible to /spit on someone and such, those possibilities have been removed

This censorship agenda is such madness; the ACTUALLY evil people are let do whatever they want, even if it means wrongfully groupstalking and getting someone automatically banned by the system, because 'a big group is never wrong about an indivcidual' seems to be their policy, and 'once someone gets a ban/mute/whatever automatically, their policy is now to never remove it'..

..and the innocent people, who never curse or insult, but might be a bit enraged about the inbuilt unfairness of the game(s) and rant about it a little bit, will get banned, muted, etc. for weeks and such although most of the time, their chat is pure, clean, encouraging, helpful, and even grammatically correct, while the other entities in the game just spew evil, toxic hatred towards everyone, especially the more civilized players - and they do this without any filter or limitations. It's like a group of tiny demons attacking you with their full might, and being given cookies for doing so, while you will be locked in prison for daring to react to their vile, toxic verbal vomit.

I really understand your pain and experience, I've been through similar crap so much, and I can't understand why the corporations can't get it right. Just mute and ban the VILE people that shoot that poison into the chat and other people, especially consistently - and don't ban or mute some innocent player just because they justifiably once in their life or after 8-hour session, used a word like 'stupid' (they could've said so many worse things).

This seems to be impossible for corporations to grasp; that there should be ACTUAL JUSTICE about what they're doing when they're wielding power over people and players, who just want a good gameplay experience and who have no agenda or wish against other players, except to kill them in the game, but not to hurt them or insult them verbally.

Such is this world, expect this from every single game corporation from now on, and worse.. there's no justice in games, and if you try your best to be good and then lapse in momentary frustration after a long losing-streak, you're going to be punished for it, even if you behave better than an examplary human being for 99% of the time, while others are toxic a-holes 100% of the time, AND curse AND insult..

A rant on ATS' will do nothing to change anything.

Are you saying they should remove the RANTS-area, because it's useless?

There are more functions to 'rant' than changing anything, and how do YOU know it 'will do nothing to change anything'? (Can you say this in a more convoluted way, please? How about 'Rant won't change anything' or 'Rant will change nothing'?)

The function of a rant is to let out steam, not to change the world. Ranting in a public place is useful, because it gives people, the audience, information about things that are wrong in the world or understanding of how someone can feel pain because of certain things in their lives, which might exist in yours as well. It gives people more freedom and choice - now that you KNOW, you can choose to avoid those things, that you might have embraced before you read the rant.

Do you think your reply about rants being useless changes anything?

Even if rants do not change anything, there's no reason for saying something like that in your post - that's just being a big D.

It's like you want to INVALIDATE someone's valid rage, emotions or anger, and especially their post, no matter how well-written, how valid their point, how wrong and horrible the thing they're ranting about - they shouldn't to it, because, IN YOUR OPINION, it doesn't change anything?

I must be having a bad day, I am ranting about rants now..

Why are you putting a space before the comma? It looks weird, and is just plain wrong. Let me show how it should look like.

"I've also noticed a lot of my Dutch is censored, but other languages, mainly Arabic I notice never is."

When using a bit strange sentence structure, like here, you need even more commas. I give kudos to you for actually using commas correctly, though, so that's great!

As far as the point itself; can you read 'Arabic'? I mean, how do you know they're even saying anything censorable or censor-worthy? Perhaps they're talking in a civilized way. To me, it seems wrong to just assume people are using vile words if you can't actually read the language, and thus know that they're doing so. Perhaps Arabic doesn't have cursewords, etc.? I mean, you can't really curse in japanese, either, and even the english cursewords are phonetically weak and thus ineffective. The F-bomb is not the least bit scary, but if you heard certain other languages, you'd run for the hills.

Not gunna lie. I'm apparently blind. Didn't realize the symbol looked like that. I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. I'll be changing that. It is an Icelandic magical stave, Ginfaxi.
