Maybe it's just me, but it looks like JAG and AM are arguing over agreeing with each other. You guys both seem to be saying the same thing using different words. That, or JAG is just arguing with herself. LOL!

I agree but also what I have seen locally is the chip shortage and supply issues have really crippled the amount of cars in our dealerships. I see an unusually high amount of non-brand vehicles the dealerships have that they usually don't carry. Is that just to have inventory, I'm not sure? I drive by at least 8 dealerships on my way to work daily and I have not seen the low amount of inventory ever. My son will also be 16 next year and I am in the process of looking at used cards and seeing availability and cost to help prepare and see what he likes.

The cost of some is insane and in most cases you can expect to pay some more money for basic repairs etc to get it up to speed or catch up to deferred maintenance. With the supply issues and car parts being delayed or unavailable it isn't going to help the situation.

How are they still being subsidized? There is no more stimulous, the extra unemployment money ended. Is there some secret to getting more money to live on we havent heard about?

I personally wouldn't agree to a role anywhere without a sign-on bonus and RSU's. I'm spoiled though based on my work history. I agree that some of the incentive to remain unemployed should be removed, however you also have to consider the possibility of those that will never want to work. Unfortunately those people exist, I know how I feel about it, but you'll get a lot of outcry around "letting them starve". I do know that handouts are not the answer, in fact they encourage the opposite behaviors in most individuals.

The migrant versus native employment is only a short term fix. Migrants come because of better pay and life style than their home country. Now they hit the native workforce, yes, they'll work for lower wages for a start but when they have been in the country a couple of years they will want the same as the natives.
Let me put it this way, whether it's migrants or natives they have to pay the same for living (rent, bills etc.), food, transport etc.. The only way it would equate is if the migrant were living in his own country with low living costs and all other low costs. But they aren't, they are living in your economy. The only difference is the migrants have a low expectation of living lifestyle (as yet) ie they are not clambering for air con, large screen televisions, you know, the lifestyle the average American demands. But they will when they realise they are being used.

Too bad the only people that will get bonuses or pay raises are executives.

Then they will keep doing sign on bonuses because its cheaper than giving bonuses and raises to current employees that aren't execs.

Then these ceos will go on tv and complain about these lazy americans not wanting to work.

Theyll always blame the poor and middle wealth while the top 10% continue to skyrocket in wealth gap.

Everyone on my team is eligible for bonuses and annual merit increases and none of them, with the exception of one, are in a leadership role.

Exactly. I wanted a lot of things when I was a poor young man. It sucked living in a trailer park, paying for college myself but I eventually upgraded to an old crack house then to a nicer apartment. Then on to a nicer rental home and finally bought my own. Even upgraded it with a lap pool and home gym.

What I mean is, as long as we're not paying people to stay home on an extended basis on the taxpayer's dime, then the market is truly one of supply and demand. If, on the other hand, people are holding out from working just because they want better wages visa vi the worker shortage and employers raising wages to attract them, then this is not supply and demand. It is an artificial demand. It is then equivalent to a strike, and that's fine if people want to strike for increased wages, but they shouldn't be subsidized by the US government to do it. Let them do it at their own expense, and then the playing field is level. Otherwise, it's akin to subsidizing a gambling addict in Vegas. He (or she) is going to keep on placing bets hoping for the big payout as long as you're giving him money for the bets. In other words, as long as we're paying for his (or her) groceries, they can sit back and play the odds at Mickey D's paying $20/hr, and not $15. He has no incentive (i.e. bills and hunger) to go get a job.

JAG, there's one thing we haven't addressed in your thread so far.

The other day I heard someone say they weren't going to get a job because groceries were too expensive. So, they were basically saying wages don't match cost of living expenses. I didn't say anything, but what I felt like saying was...well, then go look in the mirror; you are part of the reason for this runaway inflation! If we weren't floating out billions of dollars we don't have as 'stimulus' money and what essentially amounts to welfare, maybe we wouldn't have runaway inflation. Now go get a f'n job!.

A poster above asked what I meant about by a 'level playing field'. This is another example of a playing field not being level. If the government solution is to force McDonald's to pay clerks $100k per year so they can pay for groceries, I've got a major problem with this! The government was the one who shut down the economy, and their solution is to prop it up with free money. As we all know, nothing is free. And, that's not going to work. We're seeing evidence of what happens now. People won't work, if they have a choice not to. The government is giving them that chance now.

The best chance I see to fix the economy is to do a proper audit of the 20220 election, arrest all those that participated in fraud and put Trump back in the top job. With all the pressure the Feds have been applying to keep this covered up, it going to be tough, might even result in some kind of civil war?

Otherwise just going to have to wait a few years for the vaxx to do its job and get ready to 6uild 6ack 6better once it all falls over.

I was agreeing with OP and saying that employers rather give sign on bonuses than give bonuses or raises to current employees.

i am retired and mildly disabled but could work 4 hours every other day at the right type of job.
no mask is my only requirement as i have had my shots and my O2 levels drop to 90- wearing a mask.
