I hope all the stores and shops close and leave.

I hope the neighborhood people suffer.

I hope they are miserable because they didn't care enough to police their own neighbors and neighborhoods.

Screw them.

To hell with them.

I don’t know what zombies are running San Francisco but you reap what you sow. When there are zero stores left can any of us feel sorry for them? Residents are crying that this will be inconvenient for old people. Crime is inconvenient for everyone.
Allowing crime, even petty crime is stupid. I know what the future will look like. It’s going to look like huge gated communities with stores INSIDE of those communities. People outside, well good luck to you.

gated communities, razor wire, electric fences, security gates, burglar bars, cameras, private security driving by every few minutes ... looking around my bedroom and out the window. Oh you mean like South Africa.

Gated communities? You mean like only exclusive people live there and they physically shun outsiders? Oh, I see now, exactly like the ghettos of the cities, but no gates. They've been about for decades. You know the communities that physically attack and rob you, even injure you cos you went into their area because you're different than them.

Hopefully more small businesses will open, taking up those unemployed.

A nice thing for sure.

By small business do you mean, Pimps, drug dealers, loan sharks, Boost Mobile, Liquor and smoke shops. If you mean those, then yes, they will probably open up after Walgreens and any shop that is run by people with half a brain cell leaves.

It isn't only Walgreens. I worked for a convivence store that was part of a national chain. I worked Monday through Thursday 11 PM to 7 AM. Got a weird phone call one night and went out to my car and got my pistol. About an hour later a guy came in walked around like he was looking for something and came to the register. He pulled a knife, demanding money and I pulled the pistol. He promptly pissed himself. I called the Police, they came and arrested him. They told me to call the store owner and have him come in. He came in and when the Police were done, he sent me home. I got home, the phone rang and it was the owner telling me that I was fired and to not step foot on store property again. I was fired for having the weapon. Friday through Sunday nights, I worked as an armed guard at a facility that hid battered spouses and their children who had a viable threat against them. The Police had no problem with my being armed. The owner of the store refused to press charges and the guy was released. A few weeks later he robbed the same store and raped the girl who replaced me.

That story just sends chills and anger through me.

You proved an important thing, only you can be responsible for your safety. Your employer won't.
Screw them, but I do feel sorry for the girl. If she had a gun she could have protected herself too. (not trying to victim shame but it's just reality)

I knew her before that happened and I still know her. I advised her to get a lawyer and sue the hell out of the owner and the chain. She chose not to. She's put it past her. She married a good man and his a nice family. A frien of mine who was one of the officers who came that night told me that I should have shot the guy. If I knew then what I know now, i would have. Of course I wouldn't be posting this, I'd probably still be in jail, because our DA at the time stated that there was no such thing as self-defense.

This is actually a good deal Walgreens' own fault, my mother used to work for them for a long-ass time and had many gripes about the theft policy. And so did her manager, to be blunt. It's not a store-by-store pick & choose implementation of crap, it's all corporate edicts of what not to do and you don't get any choice in the matter of how to implement anything.

Basically, as far back as I can remember those conversations between them, no employee was allowed to stop jack, because it was too much of a liability risk. And that was back in the early Aughts. So all the way back in the early 2000's (if not further back) Walgreens saw fit to let stuff walk out the door unabated, because the employees weren't worth the potential legal & medical bills & related efforts afterward. In other words, theft has always been cheaper.

Difference between back then, and today, is NOW that policy is running them too deep into the red (wonder where their blindsided price hikes came from? Now you know what you're covering with that strangely expensive store branded item)

Considering that it is now a misdemeanor to steal, thanks to their democratic leaders and they can now steal up to $900 woth of stuff im thinking that is the main reason that they are closing. Others stores have shared the same faith as of late for the same reason.

It's sad that there is so much crime, but does anyone really care if a massive chain closes down?

I dont, I see it as a good thing.

yeah, more people loosing jobs, what a nice thing

let's go brandon

A nice thing for sure.

Those new start-ups will have an even harder time dealing with the theft in the area. A small business won't last very long if a bunch of inventory walks out unpaid. So, no chain stores, no mom-and-pops. People needing meds will have to go to the suburbs to get them.

Walgreens fired a store manager for shooting a robber 2 years ago.

Word spread.

Walgreens is known in criminal circles as robber-friendly.

Simply make it an on-line order only pickup warehouse. Nobody inside but employees. Make the building secure as a vault.

This is what happens when a company chooses only one business model.

You were brave for taking that job with that shift, but to stand up for your rights and get this dangerous criminal arrested, you have my ultimate respect. Then to be fired for such heroic bravery is a smack in the face. You sir are one of the good guys and nobody should take that for granted much less fire you for it.

Walgreens will close five more of its San Francisco locations due to rampant shoplifting and "organized retail crime," a Walgreens spokesperson told SFGate on Tuesday. "Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that," Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso said. "Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average."

Now it will be harder to get toilet paper before you # on the sidewalk.

Allowing theft is beyond words, truly idiotic.

These are the same people who pushed to eliminate criminal charges for knowingly infecting someone with aids...

They have a bunch of others policies as well.

Pure insanity or purposely done as an attack on the America people. Who supports these people?

I think all major chain stores should close in San Francisco and remodel their store with double armored glass locking doors that can be locked by security.
When the thieves make a run for it, they will slam into a locked door and find themselves trapped, and then the cops can arrest them and give them a blanket trespass notice.

Where I live, they had a shoplifter that got caught in a Walmart and given a trespass notice.
he went to a Walmart 70 miles away and used his Walmart card and was arrested again, this time for criminal trespass.
Three weeks later, they caught him again at a third Walmart when he used his Walmart card.

The moron does not understand that Walmart has flagged his Walmart card and anytime he uses it in a Walmart he will be meeting the cops.
He is not faster than the computers in Walmart stores.

Who would open up a store knowing they'll just get robbed basically daily?

That's like walking out onto thin ice after watching someone break through it seconds earlier.

Not so good of an idea. If you lock that door, someone might decide to shoot his way out.

Philadelphia outlawed protective windows and screens in stores because they claimed they were racist.

How about we address the real issue here? Why do Liberal Socialists (Democrats) want to cater to criminals? Last year a blind eye was given to vandalism, assault, robbery, looting, arson and other crimes and was hidden by the term "peaceful protests". As soon as anybody tried to stand up and protect themselves or their property, they were the ones thrown in jail.

Think that through.

One will walk into a store and immediately that store will know who that person is and what their vital signs are. The shopper can pick up whatever they want and walk out as their digitalized account will deduct the cost of their purchase.

This is devious, because it can be made to sound extremely good, while it's actually diabolically evil.

I mean, what would be more convenient in a convenience store than not even needing any kind of cashier system at all? Extreme convenience.

That would, of course, be the total destruction of humanity as well. There used to be times, when a store owner could like you or want to reward you for your ongoing patronage, and slip an extra chocolate bar or whatnot into your bag, or give you a discount, or have pity on you not having QUITE enough money, and just let you have it anyway. That's gone immediately with this system.

People here can probably think of many similar 'humanity' interactions when it comes to businesses like these, I am sure most of us have some kind of 'very human situations' in our memories, where someone surprisingly let us have something for free or at a discount, without any particular reason other than showing a bit of humanity or being a bit of kind to someone.

The loss of privacy is possibly not even the worst thing about this - the corporations suddenly knowing every customer's every private detail (though a lot of it is 'person's data', but we won't go into that right now). They can track the products as well, not that they need to, because they would know your address, too, I am sure.

It's a scary thought that some entity, corporate or not, can just know your data immediately just because you need food to eat.

This system would of course make stealing impossible - when the system automatically 'pays for anything you take with you from your own account', how the heck do you steal things? Then again, poor people and junkies steal anyway, and the thing is, when there's no money in the account, what's going to happen? They will just go into 'virtual debt' that keeps rising with every steal.

There would still have to be some kind of system to prevent those that 'do not have enough credits' from getting out with an item they can't pay for. So even this system wouldn't make some kind of guards or auto-locking door system obsolete (automating guards would present its own, hefty set of problems).

If it ever comes to this kind of system being implemented everywhere, I can only hope I am already long gone.
