But knowledge can. My Grandfather built a "mountain house" at Volcano. Among other talents, he was a geologist (he knew Dr. Thomas Jagger). And he knew what he was doing. Those who have built homes on the east rift...well, let's just call them optimists. My Grandfather chose not to build there, 80 odd years ago.

Our own Volcano House is still there. Many houses in Puna are not.

It is just amazing to watch the massive energy in motion...

It took me a few minutes to recognize that Hilo, Hawaii is on the East side of the Kilauea volcano... and Kona is on the Western side.

Your family made good decisions... and for now, areas of the big Island seem safe for the homes; but I imagine the air quality can be difficult during these eruptions....
