Small Landslide and Cracks Showing up At La Palma

That is gorgeous. I am recording it so I can play it anytime. Kind of like Dish scapes. But this is real......and better. I will fall asleep to this as often as I please.

The chances of this volcano creating a tsunami is nil. The chances of this causing the mega tsunami the doom porn crowd is drooling over is precisely zero.

There is a small chance sometime in the future a major volcano could cause a large tsunami, however the size that would impact the US coast has been greatly over estimated and at times exaggerated.

Worst case scenario with a future eruption would produce a less than 10 foot tsunami on the east coast of the US. In order for this to happen and produce enough power to create the underwater landslide the eruption would have to be the largest in our lifetime, the size of Krakatoa.

While this is devastating to those who are in the lava flow on La Palma, this is still a rather small volcano even with the increased activity.

I concur. When i watched this friday the lava was not spouting outside the camera frame. Could be zoomed but i dont think so.

While I hope the volcano doesn't have a massive eruption. To say that it won't is not realistic, at all. It's entirely possible it could become a mega volcano. You don't know, volcanologist don't know.

I read through most of the post, I didn't see any drooling. To be concerned about a possible disaster is prudent. To be unconcerned is the opposite of prudent.

I'm not so sure about that, i'd assume it's dependant on the size of the landslide, it's improbable but to say impossible is a stretch. The wave could well propagate across the Atlantic and depending on coastal formation could well cause localised damage, not anywhere near what some are suggesting tho.

It's not like ATSer's made up a story about this potential threat, there have been stories the one I watched on the History channel was pretty in-depth, it was about the widening crevasse on the volcano. Their theory was a large violent eruption could possibly cause half the volcano to slide quickly into the ocean. Obviously, the much more likely scenario is bupkis.

Of course 2020 and 2021 has been full of concerns over things that have an extremely small percentage of actually happening

A 10 foot wall of water over NYC if it stayed long enough would probably cause it to be abandoned. All those subway and utility tunnels underneath it filled with saltwater it could months to years to get it pumped out. No power, no sewer, and no fresh water. All the ground floors in all the buildings ruined.

Cost wise it might be cheaper to turn it into a dystopian nightmare park.

I may well have gotten this wrong, but it was my understanding that it isn't the eruption itself that directly causes a tsunami. That would indeed need to be a massive eruption.

The eruption can cause or be a part activity on the fault line that causes part of the island to crash into the sea. That's not your everyday landslide.

It would need a massive eruption that causes a landslide that displaces a lot of water. That will not happen with this current eruption...though the doom porn crowd is still excited about it.

That is worse case, from a future major eruption and subsequent landslide. That will.not happen with this eruption. Also tide plays a role, a 10' tsunami/surge at low tide would not even bring water levels up to the high tide mark in New York.

Some folks were trying to claim there would be a 100'+++ tsunami that would impact the east coast of the US,..this is simply a great exaggeration.

A gal I dated in college was a Volcano, a Tsunami, an Earthquake and Armageddon all rolled up into one. She was a redhead too! Her name was Judy. She eventually became known as...'The Judy'. The Judy was beautiful, but she was not something to be trifled with. She was like a cross between Aphrodite, Venus, and Medusa, crossed with a rabid pitbull (in heat) and 3-4 sticks of really old nitroglycerine. Oh, and a raging forest fire.

And Gawd pity the poor fool who ever mixed The Judy into some Tequila!! Heaven and Hell would merge into one, the Earth would crash into the Sun and the Universe would implode into a giant singularity.

In any case, just follow the sirens, or look for the mushroom clouds along the horizon. You'll find The Judy there.

You think I'm kidding, but I'm really not!

Probably one of the funniest life-stories I have (although probably borderline not repeatable here) involves...The Judy, a sprinkler system, my best friend, the cops, naked girls, getting thrown through a glass window (not me), a neighbor chasing bloody zombies around his yard at 3am with a shotgun, a wrestling match, 'Joan Jett', a very big hedge and a runaway dog!
