This story lines up with other stories where we are looking at 25%-27% of nurses and doctors have refused the vaccine. I estimate some of those holdouts will probably give in but what the hell are they going to do if 15% of all healthcare workers quit or get fired?

I would love to see a follow up story on this one to see what the 7 remaining nurses do.

www.wwnytv.com...

Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, NY, will temporarily stop delivering babies, after maternity-ward employees quit rather than be forced to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to reports.

Six employees in the unit resigned over the vaccine mandate, and another seven are undecided about getting the shot, the county health system’s CEO, Gerald Cayer, said Friday,

nypost.com...

He said he hopes this is a temporary situation and will work with the state Department of Health to make sure the unit won’t permanently close.

“If we can pause the service and now focus on recruiting nurses who are vaccinated, we will be able to reengage in delivering babies here in Lewis County,” said Cayer.

Cayer said 165 hospital employees have yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19; that’s 27 percent of the workforce.

What will happen when the time of the booster shot comes, and you return to the ranks of the Unvaxed? Quite a few people will not be wanting to go through that again.

What happens when the vaxxed employees walk out from being overworked from when the unvaxxed quit or were fired?

Technically they would be fired for insubordination for refusing the vax which means unemployment can be denied. What if angry former workers decide to: commit arson, mass shooting, bombing or other violent means of expression as retaliation?

Is there an EO for that contingency?

Nurses or any healthcare provider can pick and choose where they work. One of the big perks of working on a high demand industry. They will be fine.

I dont think their wrong nor say they should not quit if they feel this strongly.

especially given medical professionals are in high demand and can take their certifications wherever.

HOWEVER

tactically i feel this is a BIG MISTAKE

because you quit you loose unemployment (willingly leaving the job) and de facto the mandate is considered legal.

now if they have to FIRE YOU then you accomplish

a. a good case for fighting for unemployment

b. they can then FORCE THIS ISSUE to the courts for a DEFINATE RULING on its legality.

what is happening is no different than chicago (cook county) Il gun ban that existed for decades.

they counted on no one having the money, time and legal representation to fight the CLEARLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL / illegal laws.

so it was de facto legal/constitutional for DECADES until someone(s) had the money , time and legal muscle to have the court case run its course.

to which the supreme court in blunt language slapped them up the side of the head by ruling against them .

this is sadly no different

this mandate and all the past ones at city, county, state (governors) and federal level on covid has only existed because no one has been able to push this though the courts for a FINAL RULING...

what lower court rulings against them have happened (damn few) have been outright IGNORED and no legal repercussion has EVER HAPPENED.

They are going to keep doing what they have been doing, rationing healthcare. Instead of trying to coerce people into taking a very controversial, and possible ineffective vaccine. The federal government could be building temporary hospitals or bolstering the ones we have. Even if they consider people who don't want the vaccine stupid. Is that really a valid reason to let them die?

Not if they can't work anywhere because the government says they can't due to vaccination requirements. They can want work. The employer can want to hire them, but if they aren't vaccinated and the government stands in between the two like a legal wall, nothing happens. Nurses don't work because employers can't hire.

I suppose employers can hire illegals because they get to have a choice still according to Psaki. Can't wait to have the nurse who doesn't speak English taking care of me.

The state has ordered all health-care workers in New York to get their first shot by Sept. 27 or face termination.

That's a quote from your second article. And New York is not the only state that has made a vaccine mandate. These nurses will likely have to move to another state that is more friendly to vaccine holdouts. The hospital in the article and others like them will have to raise wages to attract enough nurses. And like MIM said, there is no shortage of foreign nurses who want to come here to work.

Thanks for the correction. I thought it was an employer requirement unrelated to a government mandated requirement. I have already stated my position in this. The government has no business in telling people what to do with their bodies.

Haha... not allowed.

In the US the number of Doctors is heavily regulated by law for quite a few decades. The AMA has bought off congress to ensure that they can control the supply side of US medical professionals. They dictate the artificial shortages to keep prices and salaries high.

www.lewrockwell.com...

Today, with increasing government intervention in medicine – often at the AMA’s behest – the organization exercises somewhat less direct policy control. But it still has tremendous influence on hospitals, medical schools, and licensing boards.

It limits the number of medical schools, and admission to them, and makes sure the right to practice is legally restricted. The two are linked: to get a license, one must graduate from an AMA-approved program. And there is a related AMA effort to stop the immigration of foreign physicians. The AMA also limits the number of hospitals certified for internships And licensure boards will accept only AMA-approved internships.

The licensure boards – who invariably represent medical societies – can revoke licenses for a variety of reasons, including “unprofessional conduct,” a term undefined in law. In the past, it has included such practices as price advertising.

Medical licensure is a grant of government privilege. Like all such interventions, it harms consumers and would-be competitors. It is a cartelizing device incompatible with the free market. It ought to be abolished.

The Best of Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

www.nytimes.com...

A report issued by the American Medical Association's board of trustees calls for doctors, states and education officials to review the size of medical school enrollments and urges standards that would limit the admission of foreign-trained doctors into the American medical system.

usatoday30.usatoday.com...

Controlling the supply

The marketplace doesn't determine how many doctors the nation has, as it does for engineers, pilots and other professions. The number of doctors is a political decision, heavily influenced by doctors themselves.

Congress controls the supply of physicians by how much federal funding it provides for medical residencies — the graduate training required of all doctors.

To become a physician, students spend four years in medical school. Graduates then spend three to seven years training as residents, usually treating patients under supervision at a hospital. Residents work long hours for $35,000 to $50,000 a year. Even doctors trained in other countries must serve medical residencies in the USA to practice here.

Medicare, which provides health care to the nation's seniors, also is the primary federal agency that controls the supply of doctors. It reimburses hospitals for the cost of training medical residents.

In 1997, to save money and prevent a doctor glut, Congress capped the number of residents that Medicare will pay for at about 80,000 a year. Another 20,000 residents are financed by the Veterans Administration and Medicaid, the state-federal health care program for the poor. Teaching hospitals pay for a small number of residents without government assistance.

In this case is a private employer mandating a specific work requirement for you to be able to work for them.

Some of it is under government strong arm tactics. I read a article on ABC news that said, the biden administration figured that some of their new rules would be thrown out by the courts. But they still expected it would increase vaccination before it was stopped.

You raise an interesting point. If there is a nursing shortage all over America and nurses from bad states quit and go to good states where the work enviornment has no vaccine mandates, there are going to be some states with really good health coverage and happy workers.

And other states where I wouldn't want to live in if I got sick.

That's the way federalism works though, isn't it? And that's why the left is often so interested in making sure we don't have federalism anymore. They know their policies are crap, and they want everyone to be as miserable as they are.

While they are happy about not being required to get vaccinated, they may be less happy with their wages. If there is a surplus of nurses rushing to the states without mandates, then I would expect for the wages offered for new hires to also be lower. Add in that a nurse working in New York can already be earning double what a nurse in Mississippi can earn.

There is a reason a good RN can go anywhere in this country and make $50/hr plus housing.

They are short on skilled healthcare workers, and while it might only be small percentage of staff that quits (it could be larger as well) Such a mandate will inevitably cause more shortages, especially in the medical field.

Then Biden will bumble on about hospitals being full, not realizing its because he ordered them fired causing shortages in medical care.

Really bright future we have with Biden.

Cost of living differences between New York and Mississippi are such that even making less, she still might well live a much better life in Mississippi as though she were making more.
