I think what's really going to drive people into a mental pit is working from home.

I grew up with my dad doing that from time to time, it's not #ing ideal no matter the spin. It's turning your sanctuary, your refuge from the world, into just another office.

People are going to figure out the hard way real fast why the older folks used to say, "Never take work home, and never take home to work." The separation is far more beneficial to the psyche than people are ever going to admit.

Such a good point. A lot of people also do not have home offices, so they use their bedrooms or dining rooms and other places like that. It takes over and those spaces are then “tainted” probably not the best word, but you get what I mean.

The company I work for has been busier than ever. We've been work-at-home since Hurricane Wilma destroyed our office in 2005. We've all managed to work from home for over 15 years now and no one has gone crazy yet. Indeed, it has given us a competitive edge, especially after hurricanes when we can get right back to work from anywhere we can power up a computer.

Yes it definitely did make some lazy or apathetic.

Here in Ontario they've been handing out thousands of dollars to people even if they DIDN'T have EI (Employment insurance).

So, those who already have a preponderance towards laziness said "Why not?", as long as the cheques keep coming, Oh, and they didn't have to pay their rent either because of Eviction Moratorium.

Me? I've been stuck at the same factories, refineries, and mills doing on-site work. I like it that way too.

There is a term that I can't bring to the forefront of my mind right now, but it's been introduced to my lately and it is a diagnosis that means nothing pleases me anymore. I am presently living at the VA hospital and they have us locked down here (I've been locked down due to COVID for over a month). I am definitely experiencing the above. My lethargy has shot through the roof and I've almost completely lost interest in most things (thank God for ATS, seriously, it give me something to do). I can't even make it through a movie anymore. I have NetFlix on my computer, and it takes me days and days to finally finish a flick, I just keep turning them off. Sometimes I just never return to them at all, and I am a film buff!

My solution, I bought a sweet camper van and am going to go live the van-life. I think the open road is going to be curative for me.

Sounds like you are describing anhedonia

In regards to the topic for my wife and I I'm not sure if it made us physically lazier as I haven't gained weight, but since all of this began we no longer watch the news and have became MUCH more world weary and uncaring in comparison to before.

It's a similar feeling to getting home from vacation only to see your home burnt down by a wildfire, what the hell can you do besides grab a beer from your cooler and watch it all burn at this point?

There is many a day where we have questioned whether or not we shouldn't just sell everything and leave but when the whole world is going insane where can you even go?

The plandemic was never physically lethal or even a problem for me whatsoever, in fact I am in much better physical shape than before and eating healthier than ever. The issue that has arisen in our case has to do with the mental effects of tuning everything else out and focusing solely on our household.

For instance, I used to be a people person and love going to the bar as well as hanging out with friends. Now I'd rather just hang out with my wife and boys in the backyard or hit up the lake. A lot of our old friends won't even be around us due to not having the jabs and those that will seem just devoid of happiness anymore in the same fashion as us. Both sides of our relatives pretty much blacklisted us until we take the shots and my wife's mom stopped talking to us entirely until we do.

The money factor hurts too, my wife lost her job due to Covid and having less income forced us into bankruptcy which I never thought I'd have to go through in my life.

So for me, physically lazy not so much. Dead to the world? Very much so.

If you have a dedicated office space in your home it works out just fine. I have a small room that's maybe 8x8 that I can close the door at the end of the day. However not everyone can have that, so if you don't I can see some of the headaches there. On the main topic I would say this has allowed me to do more throughout my day than I typically would. Traditionally I was traveling Mon-Thur about 50% of my time and working from home the rest, so not a lot of changes, just without the travel thrown in there I've been able to keep up with housework and run errands a bit more often. It's been wonderful for me and I hope that it never changes.
