If you consider not just the titles but the full texts of the articles you find more pornography. Like "mutual attraction of heterosexual charges", "heterosexual structure of carbon", or "heterosexual photonic crystal."

How do you link your air hose to your compressor? Male to female?

Apply that principle to different, say, ions with an electrostatic attraction to each other and there you go.

Pipe fittings, electrical connectors, bolts and nuts, hose connectors, etc... We are surrounded by heterosexual porn terms for explaining how things fit together, male and female. And then there is the hermaphrodite divider.

Yes. Heterosexual is attracted to opposite sex. Opposite charges attract each other. This is why a synonymyzer could replace "opposite" with "heterosexual."

I leave it as an exercise for you to figure out the difference with male/female connectors.

Academics tend to play with words to make themselves sound above the rest of us. Always have done. Just smile and let them play by themselves.

But not those academics who are in Engineering departments. The linked article states

Were it established terminology there would be more than 18 cases.

It's definitely not politically correct, but in the engineering world, people will sometimes refer to a coupler of any sort that has two female ends as a 'lesbian connector', for example. I'll let you work out the other possibilities. They're certainly not terms that belong in a scientific paper, but we in the industry do know what they mean. (and a layperson can easily work it out)

Why are you assuming anything like that? There were only 18 weird uses of the word "heterosexual" in technical literature. So sounds like they are errors. Whatever is their origin.
