If this doesn't turn your stomach then you are trash.

They actually left the dogs, ziptied into their cages, behind in Kabul. These are legally soldiers in the armed forces. And they left them.

American Humane:

According to American Humane, who has worked with service dogs for a century, it is true.

I am devastated by reports that the American government is pulling out of Kabul and leaving behind brave U.S. military contract working dogs to be tortured and killed at the hand of our enemies. These brave dogs do the same dangerous, lifesaving work as our military working dogs, and deserved a far better fate than the one to which they have been condemned.

This senseless fate is made all the more tragic, as American Humane stands ready to not only help transport these contract K-9 soldiers to U.S. soil but also to provide for their lifetime medical care.

American Humane has worked hand in hand with the military for more than 100 years to rescue military animals. In fact, our famed rescue program began on the bloody battlefields of WWI Europe, at the request of the U.S. Secretary of War. Since that time, American Humane served as a pioneer in the development of animal therapy for returning veterans, and today brings home retired military working dogs and pairs veterans with life-saving service dogs.

This administration should all be held accountable......sick sick sick.....

Why would the dogs be tortured and killed?

On a side note.
Police dogs are considered police officers but I'm not sure how that works in the military.

Why wouldn't they? They are trained to interact with their handler and likely trained to take out taliban.

And yes, per the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 they are protected. Here is the actual wording:

SEC. 371. MILITARY WORKING DOG MATTERS.
(a) RETIREMENT OF MILITARY WORKING DOGS.—Section 2583
of title 10, United States Code, is amended—
(1) by redesignating subsections (f) and (g) as subsections
(g) and (h), respectively; and
(2) by inserting after subsection (e) the following new subsection (f):
‘‘(f) TRANSFER OF RETIRED MILITARY WORKING DOGS.—If the
Secretary of the military department concerned determines that
a military working dog should be retired, and no suitable adoption
is available at the military facility where the dog is located, the
Secretary may transfer the dog—
‘‘(1) to the 341st Training Squadron; or
‘‘(2) to another location for adoption under this section.’’.
(b) VETERINARY CARE FOR RETIRED MILITARY WORKING DOGS.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—Chapter 50 of title 10, United States
Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new
section:
‘‘§ 994. Military working dogs: veterinary care for retired
military working dogs
‘‘(a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Defense may establish and
maintain a system to provide for the veterinary care of retired
military working dogs. No funds may be provided by the Federal
Government for this purpose.
‘‘(b) ELIGIBLE DOGS.—A retired military working dog eligible
for veterinary care under this section is any military working dog
adopted under section 2583 of this title.
‘‘(c) STANDARDS OF CARE.—The veterinary care provided under
the system authorized by this section shall meet such standards
as the Secretary shall establish and from time to time update.’’.
(2) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of sections at the
beginning of chapter 50 of such title is amended by adding
at the end the following new item:
‘‘994. Military working dogs: veterinary care for retired military working dogs.’’

Is it too late?

If not, then more people need to know about this asap. If all that really needs to be done is for the American Humane to be granted permission to go in and get them out, then maybe they still have time to do so.

eta: I wasn't thinking about the time difference. I guess it's already halfway through tomorrow there. Maybe only about a half a day left now?

How would the dog know the Taliban from anyone else?
They are trained to attack when told by their trainers.

Neat....we can sit and argue about whether you think they will be killed and tortured or not, or argue about training, but it tells me a lot about you as person when you seem to not care they left them behind. Sad.

I'm pretty sure they killed them. Dogs are not well liked in the Middle East and are not seen as pets except by a very small percentage of people. Add in they are trained to attack I'm sure they never made it out of their cages.

We allow dogs at work except when we have ME students, they will not go near a dog and are typically scared of them, so we do not let people bring their dogs into places with ME students.

It’s sad really. Poor doggies are probably already someone’s meal. They were probably executed pronto.

How why wtf? This whole situation is far out of hand.

I never much cared for dogs- abandoning them is sketchy but... they'll figure it out.

Locking them in crates first? that's intentionally depriving an animal of food and water. Whoever did this deserves the same treatment.
I don't want to die in a cage surrounded by other people dying in cages, with no food or water. If you do that to others, I bet they know someone prepared to show you your own personal hell.

do unto others, etc.

My blood is angry now.

They even zip tied them shut.

This is sick level stuff....just discarded at the airfield.

Not that they should be left there, they shouldn't, but these aren't military dogs, your article says as much.

These dogs belong to contractors and the military might not have been aware of the need to airlift them.

They get a command word like watch him while pointing at a target. They can make their own decisions from there.

Helpful hint. Don’t move and 1000% comply with any commands quickly. Dogs are not overly patient and moving around means you get bit. The dogs know if you are complying with an order to your knees, etc. and will let you do as you are told. Aggressive actions or speech however...bit. Fighting the dog...bit.

Other than that, great dogs. They love to play.

You don't seem to know a damn thing about me.

If they are recognized as soldiers then the brass should have some heavy charges headed their way. But considering they left 85 billion in equipment there I doubt anything will come of this.

If true, if they left military dogs, this is abhorrent.

Check this though. Here they're complaining they took dogs over people.

See the beginning of this report and then at about 2:10.
