Percy Sees the Moon ... Deimos

While out for a drive toward its next target Percy spotted Deimos in the sky , bellow is a time-lapse of their encounter.

Sky watching is fun no matter where you are. I took this short time lapse movie to watch for clouds, and caught something else: look closely and you’ll see Deimos, one of two moons of Mars.

I see so many fuzzy dots in the sky in UFO threads that are unidentified. It's nice to see a fuzzy dot in the Martian sky that's identified! The Martian moons are both pretty small so we can't expect them to look like much more than that, without a powerful telephoto lens.

Deimos is an irregular lump a little over 12 km across. Our Moon is ~3,600 km in diameter, or roughly 300x bigger across. However, Deimos orbits Mars much closer than our moon. Still, from the surface of Mars, Deimos only appears ~1/15 the size of our Moon as viewed from the surface of Earth - A bright dot, barely distinguishable as round.
