I am seeing a lot of chatter that they have just banned the importation of Russian made ammo. If this is the case, a major source has been cut off and prices are going to skyrocket again.

Fact Sheet: United States Imposes Additional Costs on Russia for the Poisoning of Aleksey Navalny
FACT SHEET
AUGUST 20, 2021

www.state.gov...

New sanctions imposed today under the CBW Act include:

Restrictions on the permanent imports of certain Russian firearms. New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.

Yeah, policy of denial alright, on us.

Where are our China sanctions for running concentration camps?

Can we get Chinese Ammo still, and will it be discounted for market fairness?

They came up with a new flavor of Russia, Russia, Russia?

I haven't seen any 12ga 1 3/4 shells for sale in over a year. A lot of ammo is still in short supply. No need to limit imports to make the price go up. Those shells, if available, are going for three times the price I paid for them a year and a half ago.

Do I need to do something about my Geiger counter? It is made in Russia. How about my hand shell closing press? It was made in Russia. I bought it straight form a Russian on eBay.

There are other manufacturers of steel-cased ammo. Mexico being a major one so these other countries will just expand their capabilities and many have already seen this Ban has been on for almost a year now. In reality, I avoid Steele cases I have had too many crack on me. Extracting them is difficult when they crack in the chamber. The only thing this will cause issues for is people that have fals or AKs since you need dealers license to even own them I don't think it will be that big a deal.

As far as other firearms such as 9mms etc you are better off with brass less wear and tear on the weapon.

That mother effer... Tula was one of the few manufacturers actually able to supply a decent quantity of ammo the past year.

You dont need a dealer license to own an AK, there are plenty of semi auto variants available. The trusty SKS uses the same ammo, so yeah, it's going to hurt sport shooters a lot.

I think my small caliber rifle was made by Tula.

When Obama was in office, I went out and bought another safe just for ammo, and filled it to the top. Best investment ever. Bless his heart.

I have to believe that those who require exotic ordinance are well behind the eight ball if they haven't already acquired it. I mean, look around you!!!!! Why you wait until the last minute!! So, no sympathy for you. Buy American.

Democrats own guns and ammo, and they go out to the range and they hunt game. it’s just that we don’t fondle them, and parade them in public

I don't believe you. If you respect your guns, you will fondle them at least a little.

Tell me you haven't stood in front of the mirror locked and loaded. Did you say the Taxi Driver lines? Nevermind. You don't have to admit that. ;o)

Then one has to scratch their head and wonder why in TF y'all regularly vote against your own best interest and keep sending these gun gabbing authoritarian pricks to represent you in DC? Are you OK? If you're being held hostage and are afraid your socialist overlords and masters will beat you if you squeal, blink once for 'help me' and twice for 'they'll kill me' and we will do what we can to rescue you from your Marxist baby daddies.

Steel case ammo is a bitch to reload. The cement they use to seal the Berdan primers is possibly the strongest substance known to man, making repriming the brass a nightmare and forget resizing steel cases. You take an AK or an AR to the range for the afternoon, especially with a couple kids who want range time too, and you're looking at burning through well over 1,000 rounds. Not a problem 2 years ago... significant problem with reloads right now thanks to rifle primers being like finding hen's teeth, HUGE problem with steel case and Russian surplus.

Also, not saying I do or do not own any firearms whatsoever, but Soviet model AKs tend to dislike non-bloc manufactured 7.62 ammo. Now you can roll a PSA AKM with US brass no problem, but for whatever reason that same ammo isn't liked by a rifle made in Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, or Croatia. Norincos, for some reason, seem to be in between... not particularly liking any ammo and at risk of jamming. So it's difficult to say "buy American" if you're shooting a foreign rifle that was designed to be paired with foreign ammo.

The NATO rounds chamber weird in some rifles. If I had something with specific requirements, I would have acquired a hella lot of it before now.

Thanks for that insight. Much of that I am unaware of. The older generation AKs' selling point was not necessarily accuracy, but able to take complete abuse. They used to be able to tolerate a wide range of manufacturing anomalies, along with being dragged through the mud, then the desert sand, water, then, say, cotton candy* and then still fire without jamming. I guess they just don't make them like that anymore.

*no idea what odd quirk caused me to choose that contaminant
