Fireeye is the products side of the house, Mandiant is the incident response side. Mandiant was acquired a while back to try and sell security services to product clients. Unfortunately the products aren't fantastic so it was dragging services down with it, hence the need to divest the products side. Mandiant will continue as an independent company at the end of the year.

As for attribution of an attack, Mandiant doesn't announce that without being certain of it. The folks saying you can't do attribution have never worked in digital forensics and incident response before.

Edit: also Chinese email addresses, cute. TTPs are basically a digital fingerprint of what attackers do, that's how they come about attribution for a breach. Since Mandiant was the group that identified APT 1 they are fairly well versed in what the Chinese groups are up to these days.

WTF interest does China have in Israel?

If you're trying to flex on a global scale, you don't have to strike at your main targets, you aim for their smaller allies first and take note of how the real target responds.

Perhaps Israel should sell an Iron Dome system to Taiwan.

Israel won't even give the Iron Dome tech to the US.

Basically Israel is both a place with plenty of cutting edge weapon development programs that China would love to get there hands' on and also seen as an ally and a proxy of the US.

China in the meantime despite it's own internal persecution of Muslims, Christians, Hindu's, Buddhists and Tao'ist's etc is actually making close alliances with the likes of Pakistan and Via there friendship with Russia and China's likely to be keeping it's long term plans for what is currently Russian territory to itself is seeking to ingratiate itself with the likes of Iran as well and wanting regional alliances as that would give them the pretext to sail there ship's freely through the gulf and also to send them into that area with more legitimacy as well as making a friendly port in the region for there naval assets and possible air bases in the future and also access Iranian oil making themselves more energy secure in the process.

They seldom do something like this without a reason, just try to see that reason by looking at the bigger picture.

I agree, they are the enemy they are a communist country, the government is been eroding America any way they can, even the FBI have documentation of what they do, but because greed runs in America China is using that same greed to get what they want.

China lie, they do not follow any rules and make their own and they give the finger to any country that dares to get in their way.

China biden and his family love the communist China, they will love America to be just like them.

Poor Israel. We should give them some more power.
I don't think them controlling our entire media, banking industry and most political positions is enough.
Quick let them open another Island and blackmail all the rest of the countries.
If you question it you are a nazi....lol

China is a freaking cheap labor country and boogyman when the actual controllers get questioned.

Likely defending a market with Iran, if i were to guess.

China doesn't have "allies". They have people they align with, but they use a carrot and stick approach to any/all relationships. You will give them what they want or they will start applying pain. The US ain't much different, except we tend to not always act in bad faith. China cannot say the same.

Whatever it is, Israel is a US ally and this risks direct conflict with China.

Now, whatever anyone thinks of China, one thing they are NOT is stupid. Don't see them wanting to risk war with the US over this. Unless of course this has a double-purpose of testing Biden's response (or lack of), so they can plan the next move...

Haaretz News

A coordinated cyberattack, which most likely originated in China, hit dozens of Israeli government and private organizations, according to an announcement Monday by the international cybersecurity company FireEye.

This is the first documented case of a large-scale Chinese attack on Israel. It was part of a broader campaign that targeted many other countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Thailand. FireEye has been monitoring the operation for two years.

I find the other countries that China is attacking to be interesting.

Looks like some of their supposed "allies".

WTF interest does China have in Israel?

Probably looking at that Iron Dome.

Probing, attacking, gaining insight.

I think you're the first to suggest this, yet it's been right in front of us the whole time.

Could you imagine if China was able to steal the Iron Dome tech? I'm sure it's VERY secure, but still.

Now that's a conspiracy theory right there.

So, this happened in 2019/2020 according to the article, and there's no corroboration from the Israeli government. The attack was announced by Fireeye, however there is no anouncement listed under FireEyes website.

Surprised me, but China is Israels third largest trading partner globally, and a friend, if such things exist in politics. Back in March 2021 a scandal kicked off , as - contrary to US wishes - Israel was selling munitions to (probably) China. See the link here:

www.thequint.com...

Tell me, would you attack the people who are selling you weapons, before you got the weapons?

I think this ois mischevious by Haaretz, and FireEye.

"...an announcement Monday by the international cybersecurity company FireEye." in the original article isn't supported by a press release listed by FireEye. It's an entry in the companys blog.

So you think China would probably kill the goose that's about to lay its golden eggs? Would that be by way of a friendly fire incident?

The companies blog is Technical, not a regular blog. It's for Techs.

The blog carries more weight than a press release, actually.

Not sure what China would do, just reporting Breaking News.

What is your theory?
