Cat registration is free in South Australia.

Yesss! Tis free!

It is all done so that animals that have strayed away from home can be returned to their loved ones.

Oh what a lovely sentiment. Yes indeed.

So, this little OP will be here to see how long the free bit lasts.

Free for how long, well, until a few years from now when all of the cats are registered and then I need a crystal ball to tell me the future.

There will be a small administration fee, just $10.00 per household.

Followed by the fee now is payable for each cat.

Then the fee goes up every year because of costs.

Oh, and the lovely people running this # show will certainly return you beloved cat ... accompanied by a huge fine.

Same playbook always.

Get a wedgie in place and yank it for all it is worth.

"We own this cat" is a human concept which cats do not accept. They have no scruples about "belonging" to several households alternately or simultaneously.

Dunno about multiple households but owning cats is just...they own you and all other things.. My cat beats up my stubborn male dog with his nuts, he refuses to drink out of water that doesn't come from my personal water cup, he will just sit and stare down all three dogs who all cower in fear of him, except my boy Carlos, who doesn't understand the concept of the cat is not playing when he hisses and scratches and growls. But, Carlos is a big ole' cat dog. He lies on the window sill and tries so hard to be a cat. It's what happens when you get a stubborn male bully when you've got a 10 year old cat that gives no #s.

I agree that the cat's know that we don't actually own them, but I'm not so sure it began as a human concept. The cat's have merely convinced us to believe it is true, so that we will feed them and scoop up their shyt throughout their entire lifetime.

Sure, but one “cat attack” and you can bet they go door to door confiscating all the registered cats.

Good. The next step should be and needs to be desexing, followed by laws that say your cat can not roam freely beyond your property.

You might think your cat is cute and cuddly, but the majority who have to clean up the mess in their yards or repair the damage caused dont find your cat so cute.

The uncontrolled breeding that goes on is beyond a joke.

And if your registered and microchipped cat can lead me back to you, after its defecated in my yard or caused damage, good, I'll be giving you the bill.
