Well, this is new to me, and seems quite intriguing..

From the Popular Mechanics Article:

Scientists from around the world claim to have harnessed a time crystal inside a quantum computer. If true, their discovery—as outlined in a July 28 pre-print research paper—could change the world virtually overnight with a limitless, rule-breaking source of energy that would bring quantum computers into the now.

Anyone heard of this before? I've got some reading to do!

Yea I heard of this before, except it was called Cyberdine Systems and Skynet.

Love stuff like this. I'll comment more after I read about this.

But with articles like this how close are we to real-world application, and pretty sure the military and industrial complex is gonna have some questions, which depending on the answers will determine if it ever sees the light of day.

There are a few threads here on time crystals. Here's one from a few years ago.
It's interesting stuff.

Scientists discover new state of matter called Time Crystals

I wonder-could they use time crystals as some kind of drug to extend life?
These crystals somehow "resist"entropy by being in two states at once..
imagine if you could use them to make your own cells resist entropy.
You could stop ageing maybe

I get intrigued when they talk about the electromagnetic properties, I think anti-gravity propulsion systems.

Imagine what that Sycamore chip (or a few of them at 2e52) could do to crypto-currency. It would actually make it pointless. If the largest supercomputers take 10,000 years to solve a problem and this chip takes 3.33 minutes, it would have all of the hashes for etherium, bitcoin and dodge worked out in a less than a year. That would make crypto-currency non-viable and non-sustainable as it has a finite limited life span.

Apparently like the fabled perpetual motion machine, a time crystal forever cycles between states without consuming energy, so if they have managed to somehow tap such potential that would indeed seem to be a gamechanger.

That being said time crystals do not violate the laws of thermodynamics(at least that's my understanding), so have to wonder as to how this limitless, rule-breaking source of energy, will be able to serve as a perpetual store of work.

Probably a bit above my head really. LoL

Definitely interesting all the same, great find.
