Eviction Ban’s Expiration Leaves Renters in South Appearing Most Vulnerable

Nationally, about 16% of adult renters live in households that are behind on rent payments.

www.wsj.com...

Housing advocates warn that a wave of evictions could be coming, with as many as 11 million people behind on their rent, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a left-leaning think tank. The CBPP estimated that about 16% of U.S. households were behind on rent — double the pre-pandemic level.

www.cbsnews.com...

I also know some property owners who rent out to businesses and they say that businesses are also behind in their rent.

I think we're going to see a huge crash soon. Adding @ 11 million to the ranks of "the homeless" is not going to be pretty.

Add to that the inflation, rising costs of goods and services, . . . . folks this is going to be a nighmare.

Now some states are doing better than other states. So some areas of the country might not be affected by this. But the states with large urban areas will be affected the worst.

WHo's to blame?

Don't anyone DARE SAY covid. Covid didn't do lockdowns and shutdowns. Politicians did. On all sides.

Some politicians want to extend the eviction moratorium and just screw property owners.

This is something many of us saw and called last year but we were also told we were heartless killers and it's only 2 weeks to flatten the curve.

The crash is going to be huge.

They won't have addresses.

I am not sure about a huge crash, but the economy seems quite fragile to me. We have had a significant rebound and numerous all time highs, but the shadow of inflation, the eviction problem you mentioned, resurgence of c19 does seem like a looming shadow.

I am curious if more government sponsored programs, like government housing will start popping up more and more? That would be one way to gain greater control over the population.

Government housing writ large.

Well, that would create an entire new dependent class.

Guess they will have to sleep double with the illegal aliens we are putting up in hotels.

ETA: We could have a portion of our homeless Veterans show them how to rough it. After all,, we don't want to make the illegals uncomfortable.

I remember, saying to a friend when this madness started,"the virus doesn't scare me much, what comes because of the virus scares the hell out of me."

We have some hard, dark times coming folks. Plan accordingly...please.😢

And who will be footing the bill?

(rhetorical, we already know who)

Yeah, as hard as it will be on those evicted, what about those who saved, paid their bills/rent ?

I hope they aren't considered "entitled" now because they still have homes.

I know this crash is coming...and that it's inevitable now...but how soon?
Are we talking a year? Two? Months? Weeks?

Can somebody help nail down a time frame?

Would you believe if I told you,in 2017 I lived the whole year on 800 bucks, with a teenage kid?(Xmas time was heartbreaking for me,then)

I am disabled and couldn't work.I had 800 dollars in the bank.It was rough, but I got through it.

My daughter and I are better for it now,we appreciate what we have.

I hate to see anyone go through hard times, but it will make you stronger.

Well that's wrong, how come nobody is giving me money to pay my house, socialism at its finest.

My tax dollars get to pay for somebody else free rent but I still have to pay for mine.

I want darn free money and I mean free that I do not have pay taxes on it either.

In Washington State, neither did a lot of the voters.

I bet the solution for this will be a loosening of banking regulation so that a new housing bubble can be made while exploiting the homeless with dreams of home ownership.

And just in time comes the move to abolish single family zoning so they can all be moved into stack and pack housing built quickly and cheaply into your backyard.

Everyone gets a Cabrini Green!
