It can be the common cold and a bioweapon. It just wasn't ready for prime time.

Besides and bioweapon just needs to disrupt your enemy. There are all kinds of ways that can be done. Certainly, our world has been plenty disrupted: our economy is in shambles, we're on the verge of totalitarian control in perpetuity over this never ending virus, etc. How can you not say this thing hasn't been an effective weapon even if it hasn't killed a ton of people?

Besides, if you don't have an effective means to cure it, would you want it capable to wiping out substantial portions of humanity? It can then easily turn on you.

So I'd say that psychologically, it's been plenty effective as a bioweapon.

Because if its engineered with GoF its no longer ‘common’.

As we have seen, even a hint of bioweapon could easily turn the regular season cold and flu cycle into a social collapse.

It's contagion factor is on par with the common cold, because bio-engineered or not (it may have been prematurely released or even just a more potent strain that escaped), the variant part still applies, as we've seen by the super duper deadly incredibly powerful "Delta" variant (/s). What's that, the 4th already?

Corona Virus typically survives because the mutations that are less severe allow the host to pass it on, instead of dying.

The Science hasn't changed just because it may be a bio-weapon.

So we got lucky, and 20/20 hindsight shows us that you are likely correct.

We didnt know that going in… which is my point. It cant be common if its engineered, because as we have seen, the psychological impact of fear on society has been devastating.
