I think we can all do with a few laughs in our lives.

I find modern day spoof movies to be badly done and nauseating. So, I usually hark back to movies a few decades old, none more so than the 1980 Airplane.

However, I didn't know Airplane was based on a 1957 movie called Zero Hour. I must now watch these two movies back-to-back... the similarities are extensive, but the execution of the spoof is exceptional.

Side-by-side comparison: Zero Hour! (1957) Vs Airplane! (1980).

An extended look at the similarities between the original 1957 film and the more well-known comedy-remake from 1980.

Enjoy!

Love Airplane....

Of course, it wouldn't even be made nowadays.

There was more to it than spoofing zero hour.
The airport movies were very popular at that time and airplane took advantage of their popularity.

I loved all the airport and airplane movies..

Hmmph...I did not know this!

What a hoot!

I always liked the jive scene in Airplane. Can you imagine if someone filmed that scene today??? The entire east and west coasts would be burning down and there wouldn't be an un-looted liquor store or Nike shoe store for 3,000 miles in every direction!

@04:55-05:05 The guy (in Zero Hour) that says, "Stewardess my wife is very sick. Can you do something please." & "Yes, of course, we both had fish. Why?"

I was thinking, who is that guy, I know I recognize his voice....
It took me a few times playing it, then I realized he sounds exactly like Johnny Carson.

Lol, yes he does!

I believe it was John Zaremba. He appears (uncredited) as the passenger with a sick wife.

m.imdb.com...

Wow, he was cast all over the place:

I saw something like this but not as extensive a few months ago. Amazing work.

No, movies like this and most anything Mel Brooks did, along with much of Monty Python couldn't be marketed today. Sad times.
