By the way, the behavior of a lot of English fans in the stadium was lowest class.

Possibly.

But where is the relevance to the topic under discussion.

And have you ever been an Italian football stadium when their team gets beat and the team you are supporting wins?
I have - the two are not comparable.

It's about Italian football team that won Euro 2020 in said stadium during said events happening, so it's very relevent.

You're just pissed off because you feel butthurt I called out your fellow countrymen.

Oh, I thought it was about some guy in a financial magazine calling out the Italians for their lack of diversity in their squad selection.
Silly me.

Ha ha....hardly, its absolutely and totally irrelevant to me.
But I do like accuracy and dislike misrepresentation.

And I just love talking cod# to strangers on the internet.

Mr AM bet me to put the Italian flag in my signature if they won.

I resisted replying with the cliche;
"No problem, a white cross on a white background'....but I resisted, hence my current signature!

Their victory seems to have inspired our lass; lasagne and carbonara already this week, both truly fantastic.

As for the article; Russian Times lecturing the Italians and English on racism and hooliganism?
Kettle/Pot sort of springs to mind.
And utter bollocks as well.

lol I was already curious why you put it there.

Yes Italian food is soul food (before the term soul food was hipster). Fresh carbonara? I could lay in it and wallow around, take a bite, some sleep, I imagine this to be paradise.

Except for the egg to wash out of the hair, I see this going to be an issue.

So Italy is being called out for not participating in the slave trade? Can’t make this up. These people will look for anything to make race an issue.

Italy 2006 getting a German player red carded in the semi finals after dramatically simulating a foul, still strong in my memories.

Which German player got sent off and which Italian player simulated the foul? I don't remember Germany playing reduced to 10 men.

I watched the whole game and I don't remember what you described. I believe there were only 3 yellow cards in the 120 mins, two for Germany and one for us.

WTF you're right I checked the statistics, Italy won that game (once again) fair and square! I can't find it, so my strong memory seems strongly faulty on this one. What timeline and multiverse it was, can not tell you.

I retreat my statement in embarrassment

No problem... my memories often get mixed up; especially with sporting events... I blame the beer.

With such high level signatories I can't see how the petition could fail , UEFA must respond.
Bring on the rematch !

This is getting really stupid now.

Italians are olive skinned or tanned IMO anyway, apart from the ones who moved to Italy from places like Africa, now if they aren't good enough to play for Italy, then that's how it is and I can also see how Italy as a Nation would want to be represented with Italians.. proper Italians!

Anyways, whilst watching the Euro's, I was really surprised to see black players playing for Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Austria and I'm pretty sure Hungary and Poland had a couple. I find it very weird actually to see black players playing for these Countries, Black players with African names, just doesn't seem right but good luck to them.

I think the same about the Mobeen fella who is Muslim (proper Muslim with big beard) and plays for England Cricket Team.... very weird to see this, I just think he should play for whichever his parents home Country is and that he'd fit in more in that team.

anyway, it is what it is...

I have good reason to believe that some guy called Spartacus - who apparently has history with the Italians - signed the petition at least 10 times.
UEFA, believing that they are in fact the F.B.I. and the usual suspects - you know who they are - think that it is further evidence of widespread ballot rigging and that Trump's imminent return to Office will spark a cleansing of the nepotism and corruption that is endemic in both UEFA and FIFA.

Well, for all the FBI and other alphabet agency operatives on here - because apparently most of us are;
I'm Spartacus!

Bring on the rematch !

With Southgate still in charge the only thing that would change is that Italy would win in the regulation 90 minutes, even with a culturally diverse squad.
Southgate wouldn't change anything, his team selection would be the same, his tactics and the way he sets up the team would be the same, his substitutions would be the same and his inability to adapt his tactics would remain the same.....and I would have to have this damned bloody Italian flag as my signature for even longer!

No, let Italy have their moment in the sun....we have our eyes on BIGGER things now!

Hopefully we will meet them at some point in next year's World Cup ...what a nice Christmas present and sweet revenge that would be , provided we win of course.

Sports used to be the purest meritocracy where if you wanted to have the best chance of winning, you went with your best athletes.

The best are pretty clear in most sports. There are a few where things get somewhat subjective - the ones with judging panels, but even there, it's hard not to go with your best.

This idea that some team somehow discriminated against athletes in order to form a team on a stage where none of their competitors are is ludicrous. It would mean shutting out a whole pool of potential talent, an intentional handicap to work against that none of your competitors are holding themselves to.

Such a thing might have happened back in the days when no one anywhere allowed AA athletes in the majors, but once the cap was broken, everyone dipped into that talent pool quickly enough because they were put at a distinct disadvantage not to.

Agreed.
All good, so far.

.... and I can also see how Italy as a Nation would want to be represented with Italians.. proper Italians!

Please define 'proper Italians'?
I get the impression you mean immigrants and the children of immigrants, or even the children of children of immigrants?
Where does it stop?

I think the same about the Mobeen fella who is Muslim (proper Muslim with big beard) and plays for England Cricket Team....

Moeen Ali?
Great advert for English cricket and a credit to the nation.
Same as Adil Rashid.

....very weird to see this, I just think he should play for whichever his parents home Country is and that he'd fit in more in that team.

As far as I'm aware he fits in very well and is very popular in the England set-up.
He was born here, why should he play for someone else?

See, I have a bigger problem with all the second and third generation British Muslims supporting Pakistan and other non-English countries.

Used to see it a lot with Black Brits who supported the West Indies.
Most of them were first generation immigrants - I get that.
They were born in the Caribbean.
But most of them now support England.

All but one of my Grandparents were born in Ireland, should I support them?
If I'd ever been good enough to represent a country at any sport it would be England - I could never even imagine playing for another country, even though I'd qualify to represent Ireland.
I'm English.
I'm not Irish-English, I'm just English.

Is that any different to people of say Pakistani, Indian or Bangladeshi descent?

I absolutely HATE seeing all these supposed 'British' Muslims/Indians etc cheering on those respective teams.

Which was one of the great things about the Euro's; seeing Black/Muslim/Sikh etc people intermingling together and supporting England.

Eleven of the twenty six people in the England Euro squad were Black or Mixed Race.
They were selected because in the managers opinion they were the BEST English players available to him.
They got there on merit.
No special treatment, no demands for diversity or filling quotas etc....just plain and simple ability.
And they did very, very well and can only be applauded and commended.

Britain is a multi-cultural society.
But Multiculturalism has no place here, it teaches and spreads division and hatred - a conversation for another time and place.

anyway, it is what it is..

Indeed.
