The famed Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries has died because of his wounds earlier today.

When the assassination attempt was breaking news a fellow ATS member started a thread HERE. There you can read about what Peter and his misfortune that day is all about.

The entire country is somehow affected by what happened to this guy and is now grieving because of his passing. Not often is our primeminister commenting on the passing of a reporter or a murder in general. But HERE you can hear his thoughts about the incident and Peter his death.

He was a good dude who went on investigating a case for the victims and their families even when in some cases the justice department gave up and changed the status to a cold case.

To give an impression...in one case there was only a few months left before the crime passed its statute of limitations. Before that date passed he managed to give the police information which lead to the arrest and conviction of the criminal.

Peter was threatened more than once in his life by criminals and got himself a tattoo which says... "On bended knee is no way to be free"

Great guy and will be missed by his family, friends and the people of The Netherlands.

RIP Peter.

Here to, Belgium, we were shocked by what happened.
Peter solved Belgian cold cases where no one else could and was widely respected for that

As I understand, he had wide and sometimes dangerous connections that he used and he knew there was a price on his head... the stuff you see in movies, still there aren't many as skilled as he was.

may he rest in peace.

My condolences to the Dutch. Sounds like this gentleman was a testament to his craft. We need more of those types in the US press, not party apparatchiks, like those that infest American "journalism".

Many americans are not aware that Peter is also responsible for the exposure of the murderer of Nathalie Holloway on Aruba. Because of his investigations and creative work he made this psychopath Joran van der Sloot more or less confess about killing her. The pressure Peter put on him made him move to South America. Unfortunately it took the life of an other girl before the family of Nathalie received some justice. Joran got convicted for the murder of Stephany Flores and will rot 28 years in a terrible peruan prison. What goes around, comes around..

Forgot to put a face to the name... That the last what I will and can do for this dutch hero.

RIP

PS And if there is such a thing as reincarnation I am sure some criminals wish there is not such a thing because of you...and people like you.
