I came across this news today. It is both local politics failing and succeeding.

Silverton Mayor Shane Fuhrman announced the ban at a Board of Trustees meeting last week

He said the move was in response to 'direct and indirect threats and inappropriate comments in and out of public meetings'

Fuhrman did not elaborate on the nature of the threats or comments

Attendees reacted to the announcement by standing up and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before Fuhrman threatened to kick them out

Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert shared a video of the incident on Twitter, calling it an 'anti-American disgrace'

How did this mayor get elected? Ok, it’s Colorado but still, the state can’t be that far gone.

The actions of the others at the meeting give me some hope that sensable people are still willing to do something.

Daily Mail

New York Post

Washington Examiner

Some politicians, even at the local level, are no longer hiding their un-American beliefs. If I said what I wanted to say about him I would probably be banned.

Shall we discuss this?

Colorado was the first state to legalize pot back in 2012 .
Now you know .
And knowing is half the battle .

I'm not a fan of making it mandatory.

I'm even less of a fan of absolute censorship. This is a hot serving of dookie platter.

Let me paraphrase President Ike, people should like that a country that can nuke the devil out the rest of the world understands a modicum of temperance by acknowledging some sort of reverence to a creator.

I agree that it should not be mandatory for everyone to join in but outright banning it for official government gatherings is beyond reason.

I don't think the pot issue is the complete explanation for this mayor.

That is a true statement.
It would be the voting public in Colorado .

Right here . Canadian . The american anthem and pledge for the most powerful country in the world is very special to me. Just hearing it and the words and meaning behind it always makes me feel proud. Even tho i am not an american . The Liberty and freedoms that is encompassed in it , gives me patriotic Vibes. The men and women who fought so hard to make america what it is today , makes it so much more special. The constitution is a work of art . America has such an optimal system that so many people don't see what a world treasure it is. I still bust a tear sometimes hearing the American national anthem. No other country has done that for me. If i was to fight and protect any country in the world it would be the constitutional republic of america. Could not careless about the socialism nonsense. That has a 100 percent failure rate. If America falls and is rebuilt by the leftists vision . God help us all.

These people have lost their mind to ideology and radicalism, in many cases unknowingly. This hard leftist idea that the west, Christianity, and white people are uniquely evil and responsible for most human ills, is absurd and ahistorical. I used to be one of these people, until I worked and traveled abroad for years. Then I realized it's human issues, and also many countries are far worse places to live.

Mayors like this, or people saying you can't fly US flags, should go try pulling this BS in most of the world. They will get laughed at or even worse, attacked. Most people across the world would not stand for young lefties telling them they can't even fly their own flag, can't say the equivalent of patriotic pledges, or have to hate their own country/culture.

There is a difference between recognizing evil of the past, and making sure to not repeat them, versus hating yourself, culture, and country.

Right, people shouldn't have to say it, just like they shouldn't have to fly a flag.

I'm all in favor of religious freedom,
therefore I support the recitation of devotional materials in the privacy of one's own home.

Public recitations strike me as nothing more than peer pressured virtue signaling.

The U.S. Bill of Rights spells out the right to peacefully assemble. No recitation is required for the purpose of demonstrating to the government that the assembly is not for the purpose of overthrowing the government.

I think it's a good thing. If you want to recite the statist pledge go right ahead in the comforts of your own home. If you want to show reverence to a creator being then I'd suggest praying and living a pious life, because the pledge of allegiance is a pledge of allegiance to the government–not a god.

Yeah sure, ban the pledge. ban the flag too.

wtf are they even doing here? just go live in China where they'll be happier

This is why America is not America anymore. Listen to some of you self righteous blow hards. I wont pledge to tyranny blah blah blah.

The same people who support flag burning as expression.
A knee as expression.
Rioting as expression.
ACAB as expression.
Glorifying criminals as expression.
Burning cop cars is expression.
Identifying as a 9th gender as expression.

The one who is controlling is the elected official who makes laws that are not wanted.

This is the minority but they screw it up for the majority. The ones who just want to live and enjoy their lives but no someone has to say I don't like it and like a spoiled 3 year old they are comforted and allowed to act in such a way it is embarrassing.

This is the land of the free not the land of the controlled. At least at one time it was. If you want to pray in school go for it. You want to NOT say the pledge...your right also but stop the cancel.

Pretty soon there will be nothing left....

I think I have figured out this mayors problem with the Pledge of Allegiance. There is a bad word in it, at least to him. He hates it and wishes it gone. This word is republic.
