What is the reason why Amish doesnt have autism pandemics?

Is that because they are not in touch with something others are in touch?

What is an 'autism pandemic'?

And to be honest, if the choices were 'be Amish' or 'have autism' I'd take the 'tism since you wouldn't be able to steal my soul by taking my picture.

OP is there any particular reason you were asking this question?

1 in 40 children affected by autism. 1 in millions of children affected by Corona.

If you ever called the China Virus a "pandemic", then I don't know what you'd call autism. Super mega epidemic.

Study design: In April of 2020, a survey assessing vaccination patterns and beliefs were mailed to 1000 Amish families, including ultra-conservative Amish sects and special needs families. Results: The response rate was 39%. Among 391 respondents, 59% did not vaccinate their children, compared to only 14% that refused all vaccinations reported by Wenger et al in the same community only a decade ago. The ultra-conservative Amish rejected vaccines more often

I'm just curious what differences there are between the Amish and the rest of America.

Do they live longer?

What illnesses do they get?

What's their intelligence quotient?

How common are birth defects?

Is there any difference at all, other than lifestyle?

Good thread.

I'm not sure others understood your post. I think you should have wrote out more of your thoughts on this, maybe to make it a little clearer.

Because I think I do understand, and it really is an interesting point to ponder.
Why don't they have as many cases of Autism?

What are they doing right?

It may be something to do with their healthy diet of fresh food-I wont rule that out.
BUT-It may be something not nice to think about, but which many societies have done in the past-

That is,if there is a "defective" baby born,it is disposed of..

Certain societies have done this is the past, when a child who would be a drain on resources or unproductive is "got rid of" for the good of the larger group.
Not saying this is what goes on in the Amish community-but it is a very closed society so It is hard to say for sure.

I guess you could see if they have kids with other conditions-do they have blind/deaf kids or kids with downs syndrome?
Statistically they should-if they don't well..something has happened to those poor kids.

They keep to themselves, they work together, and they live by a fairly strict set of rules. The "keeping to themselves" part is where they have a unique advantage during a global pandemic.

Oh, and they don't share toothbrushes.

Waaay back when I was in jr high, our school had a class for kids that were "mentally challenged".

One of them was an amish boy. So,I suppose it happens.

On a side note, the amish are some of the nicest folks I ever met.

I used to help install vinyl windows as a young'un.We did an amish families home. The place was spotless and the women were constantly offering us food and drinks(which we had to refuse, due to our boss). All the children were barefoot(summer).

The vaccine issue does raise a lot of concerns when looking at the autism problem,

Vaccinations and Autism

For the Amish, there was also one X-files episode where they would regrow there bodies in underground pods. I don't know, but if they have a much higher than usual heath profile it could be something to consider?

My cottage is in Amish Country in Michigans Huron National Forest.

Geez...get a book. Youre rallying around a single point.

They live without electrics, medicine, cars, appliances, doctors, food additives, tv...you can tell their farms....with no electric or phone wires anywhere as you pass....

The real question is asking how their social isolation....keeps them singularily or as a whole...in or out of good health.
