“Your client acknowledges that the riot that occurred on January 6, 2021, caused as of May 17, 2021, approximately $1,495,326.55 damage to the United States Capitol,” stated a plea agreement letter sent by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sedky and signed by Hodgkins and his attorney in May.

Link to Washington Post story

and just for clarification, this is the title of the article,

Jan. 6 riot caused $1.5 million in damage to Capitol — and U.S. prosecutors want defendants to pay

So now we can all agree on something. What happened on the 6th was bad. It was stupid, and should never have happened. Those who were there causing trouble are all on camera and should be prosecuted, and have to pay, no argument at all. Though I wonder if they will make the estate of that USAF woman who was shot and killed while unarmed pay as well. But whatever. We now know it was a riot, and not an insurrection. Seattle CHOP was an insurrection, and what's going on in George Floyd Square in Minneapolis is also an insurrection.

remember:

an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government and take control of their country, usually by violence:

dictionary.cambridge.org...

that was the most unorganized event ever. as opposed to taking over parts of the city with armed guards for months on end.
Thanks to all for being patient while the tantrump happened.

Was it even a riot though?

If it was a riot then it was a pretty weak one.

It was an insurrection. Period. Do you guys ever see reality?

If it wasn't, the Republicans and Trump cultists would have wanted a bi-partisan committee to say so.

I KNOW WHAT I SAW. AN INSURECTION. AND I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE.

Of course, I guess you think it was just a tour of the Congress. LOL!

Just because the Proud Boys and the rest were to stupid to pull it off, doesn't mean it didn't occur.

The conventional definition of “riot” is “a form of civil disorder commonly characterized by a group lashing out in a violent public disturbance against authority, property, or people. Riots typically involve destruction of property, public or private.”

The fact that the Jan. 6 event can be accurately described as a riot does not in any way preclude it from being for the purpose of insurrection. The two facts can be true at the same time.

No. It wasn't. You haven't a clue what an insurrection looks like. Maybe try reading some history. If it would have been a planned and organized insurrection we would have been burying a bunch of politicians and citizens soon afterward. Real insurrections aren't pretty. Neither was January 6. A woman died needlessly, but it was a far cry from a coordinated effort to overthrow our government.

Who?

I saw some American citizens protesting because they felt that the election was rigged.

Does it really matter what it's called? What happened was stupid and those responsible are being punished. Enough with the tribalistic politics.

I really DGAF what they call it, riot, insurrection, but what irks me is that "Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sedky" has the NERVE...the AUDACITY...to lay down a cost in damages TO THE PENNY for the destruction on Jan 6 2021 when untold amounts of monetary damage, across nearly a year, in dozens of cities was unleashed for the better part of 2020.

Hundreds of homes, businesses incinerated.
Scores of police officers seriously injured trying to maintain order, including police officers shot in Louisville.
Dozens killed.
Children terrorized on numerous occasions including needing to evacuate a g.d. hospice care for kids w cancer.
Unchecked mobs ransacking stores, trashing outdoor restaurants, menacing diners and patrons.
Roads shutdown, emergency vehicles stopped from traveling and rendering services.
Federal buildings and police stations RANSACKED.
Chasing US Senators through the actual streets of Washington D.C. (!!) and physically assaulting their security teams.

I could spend an hour enumerating the destruction from 2020.

And we're itemizing smashed doors and windows in the Capitol complex...TO THE PENNY?

This woman should be YANKED off of the "riot/insurrection" prosecution detail ASAP and her and dozens more "attorneys" like her should be re-tasked with combing through video footage, conducting interviews, beating the brush, and leaving no stone unnturned to locate, identify and convict everyone responsible for the laundry list of offenses listed above.

The needs of the many outweigh the few, so lady, GET BUSY helping the 10's of thousands of Americans who were impoverished, injured and even killed in last year's riots.

This is one of the most outrageous examples of gross government mismanagement of protecting the rights of We The People in the history of this country.

This woman is itemizing destruction to office buildings in the Capitol complex TO THE PENNY while peoples' livelihoods and businesses and homes were TORCHED last year.

Let's re-arrange some more chairs on the decks of Titanic as it hastens its descent below the waves.

I am fully on-board with investigating the events of January 6th and prosecuting those involved to the fullest. That said, that effort needs to GET IN LINE and be properly prioritized in the context of criticality to the most damage done, to the most amount of Americans. Not nearly enough effort and manpower has been devoted to holding those who terrorized America accountable throughout 2020.

And let me say it one more time....TO THE PENNY? REALLY?

I'm wondering when we'll get a to the penny cost analysis of the damages inflicted in 2020 on Portland, Seattle, Manhattan, Louisville, Kenosha, and on and on and on. Do we have to the penny estimates for those places yet?

I call Jan 6th it what it was ... a riot. An unruly mob that damaged and destroyed public property in the Capital complex. It was a bunch of p!ssed off people trespassing, causing destruction and acting improperly.

Meanwhile partisans like yourself, and in the media, played word games all of 2020, labeling the worst civil unrest in the history of the United States "mostly peaceful 'fiery' protests". You and your side went out of your way to NOT call a spade a spade, and obvious and egregious looting and rioting was deemed "protesting".

You have 0 credibility with any evaluation of these events.

Fortunately, the forces of justice and democracy prevailed thanks to the heroic leadership of Joe Biden.

I haven't been so worried about the future of America since Ivan Koloff and The Iron Sheik tried to overthrow the American government, with only Sgt. Slaughter and Hacksaw Jim Duggan standing in their way. That was far more violent than the Civil War of 2021, and there were more weapons involved.

Is it too late to have a Congressional investigation on that one?

No...... he already said that. A riot. Quote: "A riot"

And do you really think any Republican would ever go for yet another Nancy Pelosi circus? After going through at least 2 sham shows in Pelosi's bannana republic House? No way. The DOJ is already handling it. It is their job to investigate crimes, not Nancy Pelosi and The Squad. Congress needs to butt out and stop trying to interject politics into a police investigation. Once their investigation is done you will know who they believe is responsible by who has charges.

If it wasn't, the Republicans and Trump cultists would have wanted a bi-partisan committee to say so.

See above.
