I sometimes leave old (still activated) smart phones in front of a laptop streaming wbbm news radio in chi town for weeks at a time in a spare bedroom.

I giggle when thinking of their confusion.

Have been doing this for over 10 years with retired 'company' phones.

'Company' has no operations in chi town.

Hopefully i've wasted at least a few minutes of someone's time.

Maybe there IS truth to "selling your soul to the cell devil"

Nice.

You also may be onto something many are saying that Covid-19 vaccine is 666 but it could possibly be the smart phones. Hmm.

Now my wheels are turning

I was on a Black Ops assignment for General Motors back in 2005 along with 50 engineers. Our base was a Condo village located outside the GM Shanghai China Vehicle Assembly Operations.

Once we left the plant all cell phones, laptops or anything else was to be turned off. We were also assigned a native born personal bodyguard / driver armed with a 9mm and a Cadillac Escalade. He also had diplomatic immunity and was your protection and go between the Chinese Army or INTEL in case they ever showed up.

This guy was with you 24 / 7 like a fly on sheet. Assuming you having sex hes in the apartment. Take a dump hes in the apartment. He doesn't enter the GM plant but is attached to your hip once outside. I left the 2 years assignment early as it took its toll and wife refused to go to China. 7 weeks work and 10 days off rotation. GM payed 1st class but still 2 days lost due to time change. Because of that I am flagged by PRC

If you can say "Siri..." and it responds, it is always listening for the command...

Just tape you mic over, all good. Use electrical tape, it shields electrical signals!!

Preaching to the choir

I always recommended leaving someone behind to secure all devices instead of powering off.

We give folks brand new devices upon US departure & immediately destroy them when folks return.

But really no good way to operate there at all.

This is so true, my husband has worked in the IT field for over 20 years and we have zero Google listening devices in our home. We don't have apple products at all. My husband has disabled the webcams on all of our laptops, and computers. We halso have phone pouches so they can't listen in to conversations if we discuss stuff, that we don't want anyone hearing. We don't have gmail and i am using TOR for this website, btw. We also don't use Google for search engines.

People should know by now that we have zero privacy, and our government tracks, listens in to us and so on. This should be common knowledge.

Yes same with us and all electronic devices are wiped before and destroyed after and all have to surrendered back to GM.

Including my ID badge and credentials as new ones were issued to us before departure.

I always wondered about that.

It isn't necessarily OUR government that is most concerning.

But still concerning.

You do know that SIRI was funded and invented by DARPA right?

I'll never have an Apple phone just because of that one thing. I'm kinda of a techie nerd, and when I heard SIRI was being added to Apple, it was an easy decision for me, since I followed that technologies birth to what it has become now.

No thanks, I'm almost tempted to go back to an old flip-phone now.

I am a complete nobody and had a similar experience. I don't have a smart phone but the wife does.
Power goes off during winter wind storm.
I start generator so we can watch TV, but without the grid, the internet is down, although the satellite is functioning.
We watched Young Frankenstein, for the umpteenth time. ;-)
Next day, when fiberoptic internet is back up, I get 3 separate and different YouTube suggestions for Young Frankenstein movie clips.
I mentioned something to my wife while we were outside, out of earshot of any phone, about draining the water heater. Later that day, I had a YouTube suggestion on how to properly drain and flush a water heater.
Either my ESP is particularly strong or there is something listening very intently to me.

I've told this story many times, including here on ATS ...

I'm doing simultaneous translation in a soundproofed booth. Walls are lined with that egg-create looking acoustic insulation. My phone is lying faceup on the desk right by the wall in case I need to do a quick dictionary reference.

A couple of hours later I'm home, just after a meal. Adverts start popping up for ... the acoustic insulation.

I'd never searched for, talked about or even thought about that kind of insulation. There was no need for it in my life. Only proximity or reference I'd ever had to it was in meat space, where my phone was looking at it.

Make of that what you will.

Correct but I / we my wife and I have a dead on hit on SIRI. No and or ifs about it. Even you cant dispute that. I can run it up FCC?

So lets see where their servers are such that go across FBI jurisdiction. There is NO national security card to play here so the USA should stomp them. Samsung also needs to go to hell. God dang refrigerator also listens

Feed them false info.
File 1000 tax return forms with false names and addresses.
Feed the beast until its belly bursts.

i mean how do people think siri and alexa answer questions and do things asked of them? if they dont listen all the time then none of that would work, its not magic.
