When we tried this act in the Middle East, a.k.a. "nation building", it was widely pilloried and we were accused of "meddling" in the affairs of sovereign nations?

Now the idea is an attempt at kinder, gentler "nation building" closer to home, so as to stave off mass immigration?

Here's a thought without doing a single study: Open-ish borders and a lack of quick deportation and slow enforcement of our immigration laws is the main root cause of migration to the US.

Of course, the crap situation that many of them find themselves in at their own countries has a lot to do with it, but the UN needs to step up and start enforcing/advertising the international guidelines that say if you are an asylum seeker, you must seek asylum in the first (safe) country that you enter when fleeing yours. And then the US needs to air drop flyers in Spanish that says that seeking asylum must only be done at official ports of entry, and that if you try to claim it once caught after entering illegally, you will remain in a federal detention facility indefinitely while you await your hearing.

This problem requires both education and deterrence, both of which are lacking with the current administration. Trump could have done better with educating the migrants, but his deterrence was working.

I was and am against meddling in other countries affairs, but however, comma, that's usually what larger nations do to (they say) help smaller nations.

If we don't claim a 3rd world country, Russia and or China would and already do.
