sorry, I don't think Wiki counts in this one.

If you have something from a peer reviewed scientific source to back it up, that would work.

I'M AFRAID OF THE THINGS I DON'T UNDERSTAND!

So afraid that you didn't even try to search for the studies before you made a thread. They're out there. Lots of them.

Can you link to one? I tried to find one and just struck out.

off topic.

clones are not the topic.

?

Are you an ATS moderator? No, you’re not.

I do love when the “that’s off topic/not the subject” deflection comes up, when you don’t want to acknowledge a hole that’s been poked in your argument.

Do you believe in a soul separate from the physical body?
Do you believe that the soul can have male, female, or neutral (energy) characteristics?

I've thought in similar terms about this. We are all a combination of physical/mental/emotional and spiritual factors.

If some of us can believe in an eternal soul, then it makes just as much sense for some to believe in a gendered soul, especially if our spirituality includes a belief in reincarnation. In fact, if we factor in reincarnation, then there could be many reasons why someone would feel their "true" self is the opposite of their physical self.

I don't think it necessarily follows though that they were born in the "wrong" body. Rather, that would indicate that there is some spiritual need for that person to experience life in the body of the opposite sex, so they would be born in the right body for their life's purpose.

In the grand scheme of things, I'm not bothered by what others think or believe about themselves. The problem is when they try to force others to believe and validate their feelings, whether by word or deed.

This is what science says. that's a bit of a curve ball in this discussion.

Intersex is a thing, it's a small percentage but it exists and I certainly wouldn't want to be dealing with it.

True .

What about at the spiritual level?

Do souls have a set gender?

Gender is told by sex organs.

Do souls have sex organs?

It's an interesting discussion. Do you feel a soul can be separated from the body while the body is living? If not, then the soul is free to feel any way it wishes, as the person is free to feel anyway he/she wishes, but the physical body is limited by what we know of science today. Science is something provable, not subjective to feelings.

A person's soul (this is all my belief nothing more) is energy, and a person's body is a little carbon and a lot of water. Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, the soul lives on after the body dies. I think in some cases the soul comes back to the Earth and is either in a new body, or some other dimension that we don't grasp yet, in other cased, it transcends to another existence. It's a comforting thought and one I've adopted. It's how I feel. But I can't prove it, and it's not in any science book.

I don't understand how anyone that believes in a soul wouldn't be pointing to trans people as proof of a souls existence.

they are literally telling us that whats inside them is different than the body.

What else would be inside them if not a soul?

Any chance these people are incorrectly interpreting “what’s inside of them?”

totally agree.

Just to expand for others -- I'm sure you'll agree -- forcing anyone to believe or do anything is (almost) always the problem... not just in gender identity matters.

We would ALL be happier and better off if we stopped trying to force anything on anyone.

nor would I. I can't imagine trying to cope with that, and the normal rigors of life as well. It would take a much stronger person than I.

Oh, no. You JUST told us on page 1 of this thread that this is all metaphysical, and that SEX AND GENDER are different. Now you are saying “gender is told by sex organs.”

Do you not see that you are contradicting yourself, and say whatever you want to suit whatever crazy idea you’re trying to defend?

Like I said, get your stories straight.

yes. I hope everyone is happy and if I can do something to facilitate that, without hurting anyone else, I'll go out of my way to help.

It's like the religion thing. I happen to believe, some don't. There should never be an argument over something like that. It's on the personal level. And we should all be free to enjoy our own good time.

But if anyone mentions the word hormone, I am forced to tell the joke, and it's not optional.

BTW, do you know how to make a hormone? Don't pay her. Thanks, I'll be here all day.

I think the real question becomes when did gender stop being equal to sex. I'm curious when the definition changed, or have we been using the word incorrectly for decades?

I've actually done some research on this... and by "research" I mean consulting my old reference books like dictionaries and encyclopedias.

It was after 1989. Every reference book I have prior to 1990 defines "gender" first as a literary construct, and second as a euphemism for sex (usually to differentiate the anatomy from the act).

There's several combos of XXY and similar, a couple of Olympic athletes have the condition. They're pretty rare cases though.

Natural Selection for Genetic Variants in Sport: The Role of Y Chromosome Genes in Elite Female Athletes with 46,XY DSD

Lancet XXY Female

XYY appears to be tied to higher levels of criminality in men
XYY and Criminality paper

The British Journal of Criminology - XYY SYNDROME IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL: Genetically determined criminality

IIRC there's seven different genders in total and more if following the male/female brain idea but personally not sold on that theory.
