It Appears There Will NOT Be a Big Investigation of the Jan 6th Capitol Melee.

Senate Democrats, and some Republicans, are genuinely angry that minority leader Mitch McConnell is not going to enable a bi-partisan investigation of the Jan 6th Capitol melee.

During Thursday's Senate Republican lunch, Sen. Susan Collins made one last plea to her colleagues to advance a proposed independent commission to probe the Capitol riot, with changes she fought for. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke right after her.

And the GOP leader (Mitch McConnell) is set to win the day, much to the consternation of a handful of his members who fear the party is making a mistake in voting down the House-passed commission bill on Thursday night, or possibly Friday morning.

After an increasingly hard public and private push from McConnell, Senate Republicans are ready to make the independent investigation into the Capitol attack their first filibuster of the Biden administration.

The growing tide against the House bill, which passed with 35 Republican votes, came as McConnell dismissed the commission idea on Thursday.

“I do not believe the additional extraneous commission that Democratic leaders want would uncover crucial new facts or promote healing. Frankly I do not believe it is even designed to do that,” he said on Thursday morning.

I'm at a loss as to why such a huge in-depth investigation is needed, or even desired.

A few hundred Americans trespassing and trashing offices at their U.S. Capitol, wasn't that big of a deal.

Sure, a protestor/trespasser named Ashli Babbitt was wrongfully killed by a Capitol police officer, but he's already been let off the hook by the Dept of Justice.

In fact, a large bi-partisan investigative commission would likely find more "crimes" committed by authorities at the Capitol, than by the protestors. (i.e. Opening doors for protestors, shooting one protestor dead, allowing a Terrorist-CNN crew inside to film, etc.)

If Congress wants to investigate something that has negatively affected tens of millions of Americans, they should put together a big commission to quickly and thoroughly ascertain if Covid-19 was designed as a weapon, or was natural occurring.

It wouldn’t be an investigation. It would be a continuation of the FBI’s harassment of law-abiding Americans and a vector for their continuing to fabricate stories of “domestic terrorism” and the end goal of more “Patriot Acts.”

This comes as no surprise. Democrats and democrublicans know there there was no insurrection. It was just another witch hunt to hurt the one man that did everything in his power to help this country.

So it can't be a "violent insurrection" and " a new pearl harbor" because it was so awful and Pelosi and AOC are practically war vets because it was the absolute worst insurrection on U.S. soil in history....

And the same people making these claims DON'T want an investigation? Or it's this Mitch Mconnel fella? Am I reading this right?

SERIOUSLY AT A LOSS, because these Congress people are elected by U.S. citizens to take care of matters that are important to us.

I'm positive only a relative few Americans want a huge chunk of Congressional time and resources dedicated to examining what can be learned by most any 15 year old, who knows how to use the internet.

It seems you really don’t know anything about politics. Dems want an INDEPENDENT commission to investigate. If GOP don’t play ball they will investigate, it just won’t be an INDEPENDENT commission. It will be investigated by the Senate and House on committees and then the GOP will cry politics and blah blah blah.

Dems should move ahead and just Benghazi the crap out of this until 2040 like the GOP did with the Benghazi incident.

Ha! Military, Mil Spec Ops, CIA Spec Ops and Diplomats on hazard duty on Foreign soil been overrun by terrorists vs our Capitol been overrun by everyday Joes and Janes...they are both awful incidents but only one happened inside the US.

You don’t want troops dying in foreign soil then stop voting for people that placed them there.

Absolutely correct. This is one instance that I side with McConnell. We need more of this times 100. But alas we only have one party...the demorepublicans. Fu** 'em all.

It appear that someone lives in a bubble where anyone other than hard core lleftists still believe the propaganda.

They have their own eyes and dems failed to control 100% of media.

This is rich coming from someone who aligns with the party that has lost 7 of the last 8 popular votes in past elections. The GOP just needs to keep doing what is doing to keep losing support. Dems are just going to speed things along a little bit.

My side welcomed witnesses and evidence during the last sham-peachment and dems quickly folded as a result.

We have a very different definitions of what insults are. All I provided was facts: 7 of last 8 popular votes lost, losing support for the past 30 years, Trump twice impeached and Dems won the House, Senate and Presidency...seems like facts to me.
