The Rose Garden (NN2021)

My backyard garden has always been the talk of the town.Many a local
bride had used roses from my garden in their bouquets.I took great pride in
my garden and the beauty of all the different roses.I would smell the blooms
and gently stroke the buds as I walked through my garden each day.

One day,I came to realize that I would have to make serious changes to my
garden,heart-breaking changes.I pulled myself together and walked through
my rose garden one last time.With help from a friend,I started to pull up
all the rose bushes.Each pull was like a shot through my heart,but I had to
continue on clearing the garden out.

Working through the morning my rose garden was finally gone.I wept some
as I remembered all of my beautiful roses.After we tilled the ground,my son
drove up in his truck.Looking in the back we saw all of the tiny containers
filled with many different vegetables,fruits and herbs.It took the rest of the
day but we got everything planted into my new garden.
The signs of the times we are living in now.I needed to change my garden to
grow what I needed,this became my new normal.

With help from a friend,I started to pull up all the rose bushes.

NO!!!! Leave a couple rose bushes! The garden doesn't have to be all herbs and veggies.
Sometimes ya just gotta stop and smell the roses.
Fun Fact: Granny on The Beverly Hillbillies refers to herbs as "yarbs".

Oh Mama!!!
Your story brought a tear to my eye.
I'm sharing my roses with you. I know the joy they can bring, but am also
aware of the work, space, time they take. So bittersweet. Like the song, every rose has it's thorns.
