They put posters all over, they said the rivers and lakes are full of trout. Not a single fish, and I wasn't the only one fishing. This time I came prepared.

The wood was wet, I failed making fire. But I came prepared.

I am a weekend warrior and these were my weapons today.

Ready for battle. The chicken and peppers set and the river watching me.

I presented the fruit of my work to the forest.

The river was pleased, Mother Nature blessed my food.

Best chicken wrap ever, the chicken was marinated the night before, juicy and delicious, only added green peppers and tomatoes.

I DECLARED VICTORY !

I love cooking outdoors. Even if it is not a wood fire. It must be in our genes or something.

I used to take the frying pan with me when fishing brooktrout, you do realize that they have possession limits on trout. I see nothing in the rules that states that this limit applies to the fish you eat, they check you as you come out of the woods or check what is in your basket.

I’ll second that. Trueman topped it off with a body of water next to it. THIS is my happy place! 🍻

Awesome. That means I can carry 3 more in my stomach one day. But I don't know where is the fish hiding. I saw like 5 guys fishing and one of them told me he got a trout yesterday. Nothing today.

I also could cool down a few beers in the river but I had to drive and no alcohol is permitted in that area. No trash cans neither, you have to take your garbage with you.

That’s why thermoses are magnificent. What they don’t know won’t hurt them.

BTW, where did you get the badass knife, fork and spoon combo deal?

They are part of a kit one friend gave me as a present. I know he got it from Amazon, everything inside that little box is vital.

What!? No alcohol allowed in the forest?? Where do you live Qatar!?

Thanks for sharing, I am a fellow outdoors lover and fisherman although much like your good self there are many days I return empty handed. My last venture however, was a success.

We went to a local beach on Good Friday and my mission was to catch a feed of fish to Mark the occasion. Hadn’t seen the surf fish that well in my life, every single bait I threw out got taken and I ended up with a lovely and bountiful feed of Aussie salmon.

Wannabe fish snobs turn their nose up at them but if you cook em fresh and properly they’re as good as most species.

Keep putting in the effort and keep enjoying! Fish are a bonus when you go fishing!

Atmospheric conditions ... lighting + the lures you're using ... all kinds of little things can throw fish off.

We hit a lake one year where the only thing the fish would bite on were electric yellow/green lures. It didn't matter what. The only thing was the color. We tried other colors, baits, etc., but that one color was it and it didn't matter what it was on, they were hitting it.

They’re lucky little buggers aren’t they? I’m yet to catch a fish on a lure - my target species being bream and flathead. All comes down to the variables you’ve mentioned including water colour, time of day, temperature etc.

Got a big hit on one when fishing out of my kayak a while ago but couldn’t jag it! Will keep persevering though!

I know, but there is something else. The fishermen I saw today were using different gear, lures and techniques and none of then got a fish.

The government said they put fishes on rivers and lakes and also posters on the trees this week. They didn't say where or when they exactly released the trout. Kind of fishy.

Best mental vacation all year!!
Great you had the chicken as backup. Were you an Eagle Scout or something? (grin)
Best lure I've used was getting a bathing suit with silver beads on the side ties. It was awesome! I had no clue what the heck was going on just that at first it was annoying until it hurt. When the buoy on the rope got dragged under is when I realized it was FISH!!! BIG FISH!!!!
The lake has Muskie, Pike, Bass, an very large Bluegill.
I know, hanging head, you're supposed to use a fishing rod....like normal people.

Depending on the timing, fish will take time to acclimate to a new environment.

Nice story my friend. You also mentioned pike, I always wanted to get one. I love how they look like a prehistoric monsters.

I have a spot where "some people catch them sometimes", I went there last week but a cold rain ruined the day. It's in the bucket list for now. One day, one day.....

Oh brother, you got me with that one. You know how much I love magnet fishing ? If you don't, just check my YT channel. (link at bottom of my posts).

Last time I lost my 1280 Lbs pull force magnet. I was so mad that day. Then when I decided to get another, rona came to ruin everything.

I still have the other magnet, just around 300 or 400 Lbs pull force, is good but not the same.

The problem when they stock fish is those suckers are raised on pellets. We used to take the kids to Hatcheries for educational outings an the Fish Commission guys kinda laughed that anyone thought on opening day they were gonna get one. It takes them some time to get used to "real food".

However since almost nobody ever visited the Hatcheries we were treated to them showing off their Palimino Trout and their "babies". The big guys they fed tropical fish food too an the Neon Blue Trout! The kids got all kinds of aquatic posters an maybe a chance to feed the fish.

Up at Kinzua Dam we got super lucky an the Guys took us inside for a quick tour. They have a tank with the biggest Lake Trout I've ever seen! They were also super old, and named which blew me away.

Since I hold the record for catching the smallest Bluegill (quarter sized) with a red worm on opening day of Trout Season...I'm just happy to see normal sized fish when I can. I've abandoned all hope of ever catching any.
