Just back from the grocery store with Mrs. TAT.

As we do every time we go there, we wear a mask...not because we believe they do a damn thing to protect anyone...but because it's store policy and we don't want the grief and dirty looks from others.

A few minutes into our shopping experience (somewhere in produce), Mrs. TAT started feeling woozie and hot from not being able to breathe through the mask.
This happens occasionally when she puts on a mask.
She pulled it down to show me her beautiful face...and it was red and irritated.
She was clearly having a reaction to the material in the mask...in addition to it restricting her ability to breathe.
-
-
Just then, the recorded announcement came over the store intercom saying it was a policy to wear a mask in the store and only people with medical conditions complicated by mask wearing were exempt.
-
-
I told her to pull the mask down around her neck...and I did the same.
Technically, we were still wearing our masks...as per store policy.

We noticed other customers doing the same thing...or not wearing masks at all.
From them...we received smiles and nods of approval.

HERE'S what happened to us as we continued our, now, much more pleasant shopping experience...with our masks down around our necks:

NOTHING.

NO dirty looks (I looked for them).
NO mutterings from under masked faces (I listened for them).
NO polite or impolite reprimand from the store employees or other customers during shopping or checkout.
NO banning from the store.
NO police response.

NOTHING.

NOTHING happened when we removed our masks.

NOT A DAMNED THING.

So Elizabeth Warren gonna go on Colbert yet again and whine about a maskless armed insurrection at your grocery store?

Same experience here, I wear the mask because of store policy and for personal reasons. When I see those without a mask, not my business, I move on to the rest of my shopping. I may keep a little more distance, but that's about as far as it goes. Not my duty to ask them to follow store policy, not my duty to inform an employee.

And yet when they had the one way arrows up and down the isles and this vacuous lady was going the wrong way, gabbing away on her phone and almost hit me with her shopping cart my initial thought to beat her with her own cart...you know, just because I could.

But alas...I didn’t even smash her phone.

The worst thing in life, other than being smothered to death with DB's sweat socks, is wasted opportunity.

I live in Waikiki on the Island of Oahu.
Before covid when the place was always packed it would bother me when people got within 2' - 3' of me, mostly in lines.
Thing is, whenever I got sick (before covid) I knew exactly when I caught it. Last time this dude was across my line of travel coughing and I walked right through it, next day I started feeling bad and it went from there.
It does get ridiculous. I had a guy so close to me in line I could feel him breathing on my neck, its not a rare thing either.
Since covid, with the lockdowns, distancing (I don't wear a mask) I haven't been sick all this time.

I think its best to keep distance.
I insist on that now days.

Stories like this are so inspirational, reminds me of when one of my neighbors stopped wearing his seatbelt in the car because "nothing bad happened". RIP that dude, he was fun while it lasted.

I know him. Do you know the last thing that went through his mind? The windshield.

Waitaminute!

If you wore YOUR seatbelt, why didn't it protect your neighbor???

I haven't worn a mask for months.

No dirty looks. Surprisingly, nobody has said a word to any of us. (sometimes 3 of us shopping)

Small town, and most are over the BS. And I live in Whitmire's state!

It is nice though, isn't it.

You know, if there were three guys in Vegas wearing pig masks they'd get less dirty looks than people not wearing any mask these days.

I sense an opportunity.

I forgot to get my mask out of my pocket once and went into our local shop.
It went something like this....

Lady behind counter - "Hiya love. Y'all right?"
Me - "Morning".

After putting the goodies through the til and exchanging my £10 for a handful of change and bagging up.....

Lady behind counter - "Tara love, see ya later".
Me - "Bye".

Terrible! I know how Dr Crippen felt.

Since I've never been to Vegas and have never owned a pig mask, I think this is something to explore.

I will never contribute money to wearing a mask by
buying a mask. I use a bandana and only pull it for a store
or the bank. But I make them tell me first. Just never
felt the fear they were sending.
