The Federal Government is out of control.

A federal grand jury has indicted Derek Chauvin and three other former Minneapolis police officers on charges of willfully violating George Floyd's civil rights during the arrest which led to his death. Kirk Burkhalter. a professor of law at New York Law School and former NYPD detective, joins CBSN to discuss the case.

This is incredible. I am not surprised but cannot believe to be honest. How many more times is this going to happen? Will it be a hate crime or since they are not all white can they? The world wants to know....

This is also telling because they were going to arrest Chauvin if he got off and now with Captain BLM being found to be on the jury they had to move fast.

A career criminal dies and killed the career of 4 police officers. Sounds about right for what's running the country now.

Don't forget his family won the golden casket lottery and all the people the 6 foot 4 monster terrorized over his long criminal career get zilch.

This just keeps looking better and better for criminals, and is setting precedents that are dangerous for cops.

They're giving people more of a reason to fight back and resist arrest.

It's a dangerous path to be taking, and if it's not already too late to take a different path, it will be soon.

The federal indictment accuses Chauvin — who held his knee on or around the neck of a handcuffed and prone Floyd for more than nine minutes — of killing the 46-year-old while violating his rights to be protected from use of unreasonable force by a police officer.

It also accuses two of Chauvin’s fellow cops — Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng — of “willfully” failing to intervene to stop Chauvin from using unreasonable force, a failure that also led to Floyd’s death.

All three ex-officers, along with the fourth, Thomas Lane, are accused of letting Floyd die by willfully failing to aid him when they saw Floyd “lying on the ground in clear need of medical care.”

Floyd was being detained by the cops on suspicion of having used a counterfeit bill in a purchase.

Suspicion my ass. It was a bad bill but lets call the cops murders and not call out the convict. It's BS.

How can it be taken at face value that this grand jury even exists?

With the way the original trial was handled how can we the people trust that the grand jury was not equally mishandled?

Obviously, the officers had grounds for a new trial so it was decided to bury the whole case in even more bullsnip.

Call out the convict??!!!
Murdering him wasnt enough?
His name has been dragged through the mud so much its ridiculous. And the end of the day he didnt deserve to be murdered no matter what he did or was.

So you don’t think the jurors did their job?
If so, based upon what, as the grand jury is a secret event?

This is the type of transparency that’s needed whenever a cop uses deadly force against any individual. I don’t care what your background is, your color or economic status if law enforcement kills a person it needs to be investigated to the fullest extent. They will have their day in court and will get a chance to defend themselves something that George Floyd will never get. No one is above the law specially those that work in law enforcement.

The jury in the criminal trial was tainted. Do you not think the Grand Jury was also? There were not civil right violations. The DOJ and other should release the name of the man who murdered Ashli Babbitt. A patriot.

It seems like a theme that whenever a result don’t go a certain way it must be false, fraud or tainted somehow. Next step is saying that the next trial is rigged as well and claim that nothing was done wrong when people that do work on that subject possibly for decades raise a flag and tell you that something could had possibly gone wrong. Then the deflection and change of subject (BTW we agree on that) . Finally the patriot claim...George Floyd was a patriot... he was a US citizens...his rights like Mrs. Ashli Babbitt matter. They both were denied of their due process when their life was extinguished. Every single police use of force that results in a death needs to be investigated to the fullest extent.
