With National debt spiraling and people struggling to put food on the table our Tory government in its ultimate wisdom has decided that now is a good time to splash £200 million on a new Royal yacht so the great and the good can travel in luxury and impress world leaders with our boat , the boat will be named after Prince Philip.

The Royal yacht Britannia was decommissioned in 1997 so since then the poor Royals have had to take public or military transport for their engagements , poor souls.

Of course I'm more than happy for my hard earned to be given to their Majesties so they can lord it up around the world , my bills and living expenses are secondary to the well being and comfort of my superiors.

Downing Street has not denied the reports, with a spokesperson saying: "The prime minister has an exciting vision for shipbuilding in this country and is committed to making the UK a shipbuilding superpower.

"We are always looking for new ways to promote global Britain around the world, driving investment back to the UK and delivering value for money for the British people."

Building a royal yacht will offer us value for money , that's got to be far far better than lowering VAT !

Bloody marvelous.

It looks like King Charlie is flexing his muscles, he wants a new boat for his new Queen.

To you it's peanuts but we are a small country suffering the costs of COVID and Brexit , and yeah our government gave money to it to their buddies in the form of contracts for COVID supplies.

Governments are the same regardless of political position , they just keep milking the cash cow ... us.

Lol, that's true. It is actually funny. The globalists won the covid move and are now bragging, rubbing it in and doing the victory lap. I think they want the pressure cooker to blow up.
Maybe all the inflation is directed against China & Co.

This is why we have a Royal Yacht and it's not just used by the Royals...

The Overseas Trade Board estimated that £3 billion was made for the Exchequer as a result of commercial days on Britannia between 1991 and 1995 alone.

So then, if I understand correctly, they will call it the "HMS Virus" ?
Right ?

No, this is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson trying to distract the British voter from the massive corruption that runs through his party from top to bottom.

Yes, the Royal Yacht is an extension of foreign policy. A roaming trade mission and expression of soft power. The RY Britannia was not replaced by the Blair government because things like trade were ceded to the EU, for all the good that actually did us!

Additionally, RY Britannia was a dual-purpose ship in that she was also designed as a hospital ship.

It's a proposal.

Good, about time. As long as it is built in the UK the tax payers money goes back into the economy. All for it. God save the Queen.

I love your optimism.

Pay the nurses and police and teachers more, they spend it in their community, they pay their bills, it goes back into the economy. But that's socialism.

Raise social security, people spend it in their community, they pay their bills, it goes back into the economy. But that's socialism.

Give money to a transnational company and, after the plebs have been paid, the money goes offshore.

Cobblers.

British companies were out touting for business the entire time we were in the EU. The terms of business were set by the EU's trade agreeements, but individual contracts were made by individual companies from individual countries.

Feeling your pain.

It is an absolute disgrace that any of the peoples money be spent on anything other than the people themselves.

The Royals are a joke.

One of the overlooked issues is the need for the Royal Navy to escort any future yacht at sea. The RN's high operational tempo deals with Russian subs and renewed global commitments, and they don't need additional workloads. Seen alongside the cutbacks to the RAF and the British Army's future light footprint, the money is better invested elsewhere.

Nevertheless, the presence of the Royal Yacht in trade negations is a point that is worth taking into consideration.
