An apology . . . I guess I'm a good german

I placed this in the 'Pit because it'll probably get ugly, and I'm okay with that.

My wife has health issues I'll never discuss online. Me? Why not. I've got Parkinson's Disease and still work. Damned tremors always f#cking up my typing. But this is just the preface.

The reason I don't actively fight the evil left and stupid draconian laws and mask mandates is because I can't afford to. I'd lose my job. I can't afford to lose my job. I make too much and need too much.

If I lost my job I'll be stuck at VA healthcare and my wife would suffer worse.

So I obey the mask mandates in Oregon, I obey the workplace mandates and don't say a God-damned thing, because I can't afford to be honest. It bothers me.

It upsets me.

But I am not brave enough to stand up for what is actually right. I can't risk it. Not my wife. No f#cking way.

And that's where we are in America. We're breeding a generation of pathetic cowards like myself, too afraid to suffer the punishment of the authoritarians.

I guess I'll always be outspoken under the guise of anonymity, but will never risk my family. Sorry folks.

Nothing to be ashamed about. Family comes first period. It's not cowardly to want to protect your family.

I feel you, once upon a time I would have been all, I have not yet begun to fight... or I wish to have no connection to any ship that does not sail fast for I intend to go into harms way...

Now like you wife has some issues, I havev a 2 1/2 yr old son and another bun percolating in the oven, I cant risk them or there is no reason to fight.. but to fight means risking those that mean most to me.

Blood hard decision to make...

There is a difference in the good German analogy between acting and speaking out and doing nothing. The good Germans didn't even speak out, they just minded their business and closed their eyes and ears. Speaking out is a big part of exposing injustice and you are doing just that. I have a similar job but they know very clearly that I think their policy is stupid and anti-scientific, but I still wear the mask as I feel for the people who would have to be the ones to report me and have me removed.

That said, I don't wear it elsewhere and I made it very clear to the employer that if they mandate vaccines I will walk out that minute. I'm not saying it mattered, but they did decide against that route. Some people have less responsibility and can afford to be more active. However, you are very outspoken and nothing like a "good German". I think if the line needed to be held you would be there.

Exposing corruption and evil is part of the battle plan in fighting it. It is equally important as you need the tide in your favor.

Our circumstances always dictate what we can and can't do.

I wear the mask where it's mandatory. I'm not going to caiuse a scene or anything. Same with pretty much everything else, we have to go along to get along. FIFO.

Doesn't mean we have to like it. Doesn't mean we have to pretend that everything is normal and alright.

Speaking your opinions and your mind has more of an effect than you will ever know. Change hearts and minds with your words. If you have a point, someone will take it.

Firstly, I didn't know Parkinson's had been confirmed...and, for that, DB...well, I don't know exactly what to say right now.
This is upsetting...

As for the 'Good German' point...
There are many of us in this position...no apologies are required...all is understood.
Thank God we can still, at least, speak out.

It soon may be that this, too, will become a luxury none of us will be able to afford.

I wouldn't be to hard on yourself ... truth is, despite the hyperbole on steroids we are now living through, we are no where near being the next Nazi Germany.

We are certainly at a cross roads; there is a rocky path before us and there is plenty to complain about and protest. But the time for good men to risk everything to stand up for what is right is not yet upon us.
