When I go to a party, or a work function, or anywhere that I'm expected to socialize with people I don't know....I always just sit back and people watch. I like to learn and observe them before I interact with them. The more I know about them, the more prepared I am to converse with them. I know what makes them laugh, what they can get offended by, maybe what topics they enjoy to discuss. I can also find out who the douchy ones are to avoid, or who I'd like to purposely engage with to instigate a contentious conversation.

The only thing wrong with that is the other person on the other side of the room doing the exact same thing. That might be the 1 single person in the room that you could engage in the most intriguing conversation with, but sadly, if it's a big enough room, neither of you may never even notice the other one is there.

im not to sure about the criterias that get people banned as sometimes posters disapear without obvious reasons.

Same... I was brought here after an explosion near my house. ATS was the only place talking about it. That was in 2012 but something happened to that account and I had to start over a few years ago.
