If you or anyone else is interested and unfamiliar with Nextstrain they are an amazingong resource on sarscov2 mutations and have been tracing/following the phylogeny simce very early on. Originally designed for other viruses (which are also available at the link below) they quickly realized the significance of this virus and began analyzing and documenting thw results publicly.

Like most of us 'common folk' a lot of the more scientific data on virology is compiled in such a way that reading through documents mine as well be sumerian hieroglyphs To me lol however one thing i really appreciated , and the reason i try to share the link so often, is that the interface used by Nextstrain allows it to be viewed in several different visual formats. (charts/graphs/etc.) Which in my opinon helps a LOT on grasping specifically the amount of mutations already documented, where they are/ came from, and even allows the user to view individual areas or countries not just the overall phylogeny.

In laymens terms, think 'Ancestry DNA' or a geneology chart only instead of our ancestors its rhe virus and its 'ancestors'/ mutations and predecessor mutations.

I know it can be hard for some people to really grasp the sheer number of mutations already seen just hy reading the info- but , imo at least, seeing it laid out in a color coded chart (s) really helps put it into am easy to umderstand format. It also has a wealth of other information that i personaly have no clue about lol

main NextStrain page for SARScov2

To see the interactive global map

Global NextStrain Data Graph

Basically from left to right shows the mutations currently knowm ane documented globally. Left side being 'older' or earliest identified, and as one moves to the righthand side each individual branch would be a major mutation, followed by the mutations from that mutation, etc. Etc.

You can also use the map at the bottom to 'zoom' in on a particular country or area and see the information available for just that region.

The good news with all of that is that even though Coronaviruses in general are known to rapidly mutate as a whole, SARScov2 thusfar has shown to be relatively Stable even after mutations. Basically even though it is mutating, as expected, the changes within the genome are mostly to areas that dont actusllt effect the way the virus is transmitted or behaves in the body thankfully. However that cant be said for 100% of them , which is where the variants of concern come from usually referenced. Those variants have mutated in areas that do (or may/believed to) affect the way the virus behaves. Nextstrain also has been at the forefront of both identifying aswell as tracking those speciric variants as well. That can be found at Covariant page

And just fwiw to anyone else who enjoys following the Science directly instead of what eventually makes it to the news, Emma Hodcroft who is one of the lead scientist working with Nextstrain is present on Twitter and in my experience is actually really helpful resource both to interact and ask questions to aswell as just to follow the info she posts. I believe she is from Europe so a lot of her info relates specifically there. For those in the U.S Trevor Bedford is also on Twitter and is based on the west coast and has been ahead of the game in modeling and tracking whats going on here. Imo of course. He is the reason i even knew about Dr Hellen Cho in Seattle who defied the trump administrations orders to not test patients she suspected of having covid very early on, and thanks to her tenacity the only reason we know for sure that by January 21st of last year we already were seeing community spread within the U.S border.... Right before we stopped testing all together for over a month leading up to the inital outbreak here in the states. Im kinda going off topic now lol but using the data at the time Trevor Bedford has been ahead of the curve and instrumental , imo, in tracking the spread of the virus as well as the variants that have popped up along the way. Not to mention , providing actual data and info in am easy to understand wAy for those of us who may have the interest but didnt spend years in school learning about all the intricacies of virology and epidemiology.

Apologies for the long reply- im really bad at short comments lol but because the subject of the post is aboit the mutations Nextstrain was the first thing that came to mind and figured id offer the info incase anyone else either didnt know about it or was just curious to look over it themselves.

What are the numbers in open states versus locked down states again?

this is from NPR

www.npr.org...

Surprisingly the states still struggling are the northeastern states that were locked down very strict and are also the ones getting more vaccines while the southern states less stringent and less vaccines seen to be doing better case wise at the moment. I will add even in the northeastern problem states cases per 100,000 persons still is extremely low. So low that only New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Delaware have Tr rates at 1.0-1.1. In fact, Oregon is the only state pulling a 1.1-1.3.

Not intimating this is over or anything but that Tr is below 1.3 for all states in the US for the first time since this started

Your post is what I am referring to.

Yes, it mutates constantly, but very, very few of the mutations are in areas or in ways that significantly impact how it will behave, and even fewer of those will be worse.

It is exceedingly rare for a disease to mutate in a way that makes it more lethal instead of less. In the end, the virus's goal is to replicate and pass itself on as much as possible and it can't do that if it wipes out its host organism. So mutations that make it more likely to kill its host off quickly or at all are not conducive to it getting passed along.

It's one of the reasons why Ebola doesn't take off. It's actually too lethal and tends to burn out before it gets spread all over the place. There are other reasons, of course, but that's one of them.

Thanks for the links will be looking over this and trying to decipher some of it. At first glance, it's amazing how each country seems widely different in the number of variants and when they appeared, if I'm interpreting it correctly.

You damn well better buy this load of bull, or we'll disclose the aliens. :-|
Decide if you want to be a'feard of a magical, .00% deadly entity that morphs without a single shred of evidence that it exists, or the mythical invaders from outer space that will suck the brains from your skull, when they get here.
Do not carry on as if there was nothing to fear.

Viruses mutate up to 52 times a month, so the figure every 10 hours is close.

I am going to keep living my life until I’m dead and not worry about the Chinese Virus. If we aren’t living our lives as free men then we aren’t really living anyway.

I think everyone should continue living their life freely, 100%. To my knowledge though no one has suggested otherwise...which is where my confusion comes in. I never stopoed living my life, and have yet to feel even remotelt as if ive lost any 'freedoms'....im also not an idiot, wear a mask, practice reasonable physical distancing from others, and have the ability because of my freedoms to chose not to go into places where large groups of people are congregating....if for some reason it cant be avoided i freely chose to limit my time im those placee. thankfully because of the amazing scientist at the forefrunt of studying this virus, we have known simce last February (yes- february 2020) that the 'viral load' one is exposex to has a direct correlation, along with many other variables, to the severity of symptoms and potential outcome of exposure. As a result that means that even limiting the time one is potentially exposed to viral aerosals can have a direct and substantial effect on the outcome if i do happen to be infected. I also freely signed up amd receiced rhe vaccine, and will freely do so again with the inevitable booster shots that cover the current and newer variants down the line. Absolutely none of this has in anyway infringed on any of my personal freedoms or liberties..... So while i concede everyone opiniom ams point of view are different, i just dont get why anyone would willfully not only put themselves at risk but also risk furthering the outbreak in their own community by not doing the very easy and simple suggestions made by scientist and healthcare professional. 1 infected person can spread unknowingly to dozens and dozens of people- and thats a conservative statement. The entire outbreak in NZ a few months back which eventually spread through more than 60 people was eventually traced back to just 1 asymptomatic person. I personally dont want that on my conscious especially when its so easily avoided by, again, relstively easy and simple steps. Hell, I have COPD and have been wearing N95 masks in public and at work for more than a year without any ill effevts except the mild inconvenience.

But thats just it....all of these in the grande scheme of things are mild inconveniences at best I really have no reason NOT to do them... Unless of course I either: Need the attention from complaining. Need the attention of a group of others who are complaining and dont want to feel left out. Insist on making this a political statement and am content with literally either dying or potentially killing someone else despite the overwhelming evidence, solely because im too prideful to admit I was wrong or had been miseld by a public figure i put too much trust in. Or.. More negatively, im a horrible person who wants to watch the world burn, enjoy the chaos, and dont want to see it end so im willing to cut my own nose off to spite my face. Past those though... I just genuinely, sincerely, do not understand the aversion to such easy, simple, and painless methods that are proven to help mitigate the spread of the virus.

I just dont get it.

But yes i 100% agree, theres no reasom to stop living ones life or to lose ones freedom just because of a virus. Theres no reason to live in fear... Because the steps i personally am able to chose to take geeatly reduce the probability I will contract the virus to begin with. Imo the only people playing Russian roulette and should be living in fear- are the ones who refuse to trust the data and instead act as if nothing is happening. That takes balls, I for one value my life amd the lives of those around me far too much fpe that. The virus doesnt care if I believe in it, or believe in its capabilites, sadly closing my eyes and pulling a blanket over my head doesnt actually make this monster disappear. It will exist and continue to run its course with or without my acknowledging it... But when the options of reducing my own risk are so simple- not to be repetitive but.. Theres just no reason for me to NOT do them.

But some, I guess, are more willing to follow their crowd regardless of where it goes....even if that path is directly off a cliff, into an ocean, while dressed in wool, yet calling everyone else sheep in the process to make themselves feel better- if only superficially- while they slowly drown in their own pride.

But yes i couldnt agree more with your statement, if we arent living our lives as free men, we arent living at all...and i personally plan to keep living this free life long after this virus is finally no longer an immediate threat. I got a LOT more living to do lol

Stay safe!

I live in the US , in the State of Georgia .
Know how many people I see wearing masks ?
Why ?
Because we have little use for ignorance and fear here.
In Georgia.
In the US.

How is it where you are at ?

Because your avatar is totally DARK as in mysterious. So for some reason I assume you are good not bad and slapped you with the Jesus shtick.

Would you allow an infected person to help you clean those toilets? Or kiss your kids or wife or mother?

I clean de toilets because I am of Polish decent and we clean everything. Actually there's Clean and then there is Polish Clean.

No on both to infected person. Yes I distance and mask in public as I am compromised since birth. I have Mitochondrial Disease. HOWEVER. I don't need a blue pill

I used to live in Newnan, GA. I saw my very first "Sons of The Confederacy" parade there. Complete with bubba trucks, flags with police escort.

I will assume that NO one is wearing masks in Georgia except for some of the government officials in Atlanta. Especially at the CDC.

Where I am at in South Carolina outside of Columbia [Lake Murray] region it is somewhat surprising as many here are wearing masks. I would say near 75%.

Down here its all about Food and SEC Football. Since the next season is coming upon us many want to keep the players healthy and food on the table.
