Did a V22 Osprey fly over southern Wales yesterday afternoon, 15th April 2021?
If so, where did it come from?
The Osprey is a very rare bird here in the UK, TBH I thought they were restricted to the US Marines.
What would it be doing over here,in the UK?
Did anybody else see it?
Where were they?

They have CV-22s belonging to AF Special Operations Command based at Mildenhall, along with MC-130s to support them. The USS Iwo Jima is in the Celtic Sea, with embarked MV-22s as well.

Not that rare of a sight over Hereford, just a short hop to the border.

There was quite a bit of air traffic overhead yesterday.

A but too much for me to scan during lunch however :-

Thanks all.
Hereford, SAS, that explaines it! Maybe it was lost, haha.
Would the Iwo Jima be bit far out for an Osprey to be over south Wales?

DUDE !!!
I am in North Wales and I heard a thing that sounded like a chinook, around midday ish-didn't see it but my Mum did,and when I saw her later I asked her if it was a chinook-she said no "it was like a plane but with HUGE propellers on each wing and a weird tail."

I asked her to draw a sketch-and it looked just like a V-22 !

Man I was gutted to have missed it!

They train/fly from RAF Shawbury according to this article:
www.aerosociety.com...

If I hear the same noise again I will rush outside with my camera.

Well spotted mate

The Osprey has a range between 428 nm and 525 nm (500-600 miles). Depending on where the Iwo Jima was, and where they were going, Wales is well within range for them.

If you are alllowed to answer this-
Are they flying regular operations or is this something to do with whats going on with Russia/Ukraine?

Just wondering if we will see more over Wales-I want to get a photo!
Always thought the Osprey is seriously cool.

A relative lives right next to the old RAF Sculthorpe site in Norfolk where the Ospreys can be seen most days. They often fly in with the Hercs and land there as it's still an active MoD training area. Got some great close shots of them over the last few years.

Wow,Nice.
The coolest aircraft I have seen over my house was a Vulcan bomber a few years ago-IIRC it was the last ever flight of it before it went to a museum.
I do get good regular views of the Beluga though,as its flight path goes right over me as it transports wings to France.

Standard deployment. The Iwo just completed workups and upgrades. She has the 24th MEU aboard.

I used to live in Herefordshire, we saw some pretty awesome stuff, but never an Osprey, lol

On topic, at times when I've opened the flight radar app I've seen Ospreys down towards the Southwest of the UK, I've no idea where they come from, it's likely been mentioned here already.

They're badass machines

I used to live just up the road from the old camp, saw plenty of weirdness

My mum still lives there and it's kind of funny seeing helos around still (though not as many now they have moved to Credenhill) I've spent my life under aircraft it seems, I am just down the road from Staverton airport in Cheltenham now.

Mildenhall. The 7th SOS flies them from there.

See them loads in the Lake District. There's one that flies every week near where I work

Here’s a shot I took at Sculthorpe, I swear the pilot saw me standing there with my camera as it came a lot closer than they usually do to where I hang out.

Another later on a sunny day.

Are you referring to E. Harold by any chance? I used to love driving through there and trying to spot stuff as a kid, lol

I miss that area,
