Cops really just need to say screw it and let the hoodrats take over their communities.... let them police themselves and see how it works out.

Then we can move the police to other areas in the cities to protect those of us who want to live in a civilized society...

I get the sarcasm, but really all that's needed is for law enforcement to show some common sense and only shoot when its absolutely necessary. That common sense should come from proper training. Shooting the perpetrator should be the last last last option.

Chasing after kids and shooting them even when they listen to your commands is not right surely? I am flabbergasted, dismayed that there are people on here that think nothing is wrong with this.

Same old song and dance. This dude wins another Darwin award. I say another thug off the streets.

Most likely, the media will smell this, swim up to it like the sharks they are, notice it's a white kid, and all turn away at the same time with zero interest. Our media is pathetic like that. If it's found out that this kid has any black in him then they'll be all over it once again.

Your arm chair quarterbacking is cute. When you are letting off shots at 4am in a gang infested neighborhood, cops come to investigate, and you run with a gun.... you have created a situation where you just might get blasted. Cop doesn't know he is a 13 year old. Thirteen year olds in Chicago are like 20 year olds. Many are already hardened criminals and probably let off shots against rival gang members and may already have a body. The shooters in Chicago you hear about on the news are literally like 14 and 15 years old often.

Life ain't a video game where a cop can respawn. That split second could have cost the cop his life.

Again, when you create a situation where a cop now has to make split decisions you are increasing the chances of deadly force. Unfortunately, the odds are not in your favor.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It is tragic. But once again, the situation was brought on by the victim.

I would not want to be a cop policing thugs and miscreants where you cannot even defend yourself or expect compliance.

The shot was accurate and quick. Maybe this officer was not one of the inexperienced newbies.

That is why more training is needed.
There shouldnt have been a shot

Joe Biden says in situations like that, police should shoot the suspect in the leg.

Joe Says a Leg Shot is all that's needed: www.fox13news.com...

What a bright President America elected in a landslide.

Life ain't the movies. You can die from a leg shot. Cops aren't John Wick... handguns are very inaccurate under stress unless you are right up on the target. Cops are trained to shoot center mass as the are more likely to hit the target.

This shooting happened many days ago. The policy bodycam footage was released today.

Because the little fella isn't Black, there's not much genuine outrage.

Just another example of police acting like S.S. Storm Troopers.

It's very common in this country.

Sadly, Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Indians, Chinese, anyone/everyone are all killed by evil men/women in uniform.

I don't get what you are saying dude...did the person NOT pull a gun on the police officer? I'm confused.

He had a gun in his hand, dropped it and 0.8 seconds later spun around raising his arms, gun or not, you are meeting God doing this.

1-Kid is doing naughty stuff with guns, see's a cop, panics and runs
2-Cop chases, shouts 'stop!', kid eventually stops running
3-Cop shouts raise your hands, kid raises his hands (after tossing gun behind wall)
4-Cop thinks he's going to shoot him, so blasts the kid in the chest.

What the hell was that kid supposed to do once the cop caught him, looks like he was going to get shot regardless?

This is similar to that army guy refusing to get out the car for getting stopped recently for having a dodgy break light. He was stuck in a no win situation. Cop screaming at him to get out the car, and show his hands at the same time - difficult to do when seat-belted in. WTF should he do?

--edit- and just to add, enough of the 'kid deserved it' crap. The police should have hard and fast rules for these situations and should stick to them, not go blasting anyone who 'might' shoot them. As at that point, apart from carrying and messing about with a weapon that kid hadn't done anything wrong.

The "kid" shouldn't have been running the streets trying to murder people with a gun (or as you say, "doing naughty things"). The cop saw the person, who was reported to be shooting up the city, with a gun in their hand running from them. The perp tried to ditch the gun, which the cop was unable to see, so when the perp stopped and quickly turned on the cop, the only choice the cop had was to use deadly force. 100% justified. Sad situation, but it was 100% justified.

Bad decisions sometime get you dead. Sadly, this 13 year old wasn't taught right and wrong by his parents. Blame them.

You didn't get the irony of the post, did you? But that is really a quote from Joe Biden, "just shoot them in the leg".

Should they have those rules ?

I dare you I triple dog dare you to go sign up for the Police force in Chicago .

That cop made a split second decision and it was the right one , You have no idea what it is to be in a situation like that . The suspect had a gun end of story , it could have just as easily been the kid who drew down on the Cop and fired , but it was the Cop who fired first.

The fact that the guy tried to be cute and throw the gun is completely irrelevant becausee he threw the gun in a manor which the Police officer could not see , so as far as the situation goes the guy still had a gun.

Secondly the guy had gun shot residue on his hands and was as it turned out shooting said gun at a car , so he was hardly " doing nothing wrong "

you wanna blame someone blame the kids parents .

The Cop was just doing his job and it's a damn hard job at that .

Kind of like telling someone to STOP MOVING OR I WILL SHOOT YOU...while you are Tazing the # out of them....its pre-meditated MURDER....and its been commonplace.....and its got to stop now.

Policing will never stop...but Police murdering Suspects with Impunity will definately stop.

Pre-meditated murder ?

Do you even know what that means ? Obviously not otherwise you would not have so ignorantly used it in a sentence .

A split second decision in the streets of Chicago where police officers face life or death situations on a daily basis is the literal opposite of " Pre-meditated " .

He had a gun fleeing the scene of a shooting , It's a miricale the Cop didn't shoot him immediately . The Kid made every bad decision that could have been made in that situatuon and got killed there was nothing Pre-meditated about it mate .

It's the Gang he was in who is to blame it's his Parents who are to blame .

They like to throw a justified police shooting in the midst of a bunch unjustified police shootings, all while a high profile trial is ending in which the police killed someone with their excessive restraint tactics, to make sure the public has an pro/con opinion with no middle ground, that keeps the cycle spinning out of control until...

Alls the cop had to do was shout "put your hands up" first.
Then when his hands were fully up tell him to turn around.

Telling him to put his hands up and turn around was the wrong bit and is where training is lacking. The kid did exactly as he was told and now he's dead.

Sickening, disgusting, and its got to stop. Its got to.

Mate so long as Criminals have guns , they are going to die by them.

The guy messed up throwing the gun where the cop couldn't see it .

They are ready to be parents now that he is dead and it's front page news .

Sad, but true. They don't care what their kid does. Running the streets armed with an illegal firearm? No problem. Doing and selling drugs? Great!

Get shot doing something stupid, "DAS RACIST! THE COPS BE KILLING US!".
Like BLM, these idiot parents are only in it for the free money. I feel bad for the kid, really. Had he had parents that actually cared he may have made something of himself. Hard to get ahead when your own parents keep you down.

Looks like he threw his gun away too late.

He wouldn't be Dead if:
- He didn't have a gun, since he was 13 it was illegal for him to even have it
- He didn't run from the Police
- He didn't have idiots for Parents and Friends
- He wasn't (Probably) under the mistaken impression because of all of these protests that the Police wouldn't shoot. Putting people under the false impression that they won't get shot because of Protests is very dangerous.

If Black Lives really Masttered, someone would have taught that kid not to be doing what he was doing.

I feel bad for that kid. They ought to charge his Parents. At least for Negligence, if nothing else.

Currently there is some sort of mass shooting and protestors in Kenosha. It’s on the scanner. Not sure what happened.

It's amazing how few people actually die from gunshot wounds. I thought it would be at least 50%. Turns out to be more like 12%.
