Shooting at Tennessee high school: multiple victims, including officer – police

I live in Knoxville. I don’t blame this one on Biden. I do blame our progress mayor. Gang activity, drugs, and violence are completely out of control in Knoxville and our mayor needs to get out of the way and let the police do their jobs. Just 3 weeks ago I was in line at the Burger King drive through and a car passing through fired off 9 shots. The kid at the window said it happens about once a week. Shooting are very common in that area.

Austin East, the school where the shooting occurred, is in the predominately black area where our mayor is going to pay 100 million dollars in reparations to the black community. This payout is because the area was disturbed in the sixties by a community development project. Go figure.

FWIW - the officer in the Knoxville shooting, who is black, is also a pastor and well known and respected within the community of the school as well as the city.

A student in the school opened fire on the officer hitting him in the leg causing a great deal of damage to his femur, He returned fire and took the student down.

The officer is in good spirits and is having surgery. He will need extensive rehab on his leg. This makes the 5th teenage student of the high school killed by gunfire since January.

The other 4 were innocent bystanders who were murdered within close proximity of the school with open investigations continuing.

The Mayor, Police and local community leaders and residents met at an event to tackle this issue just yesterday. It's the culture and it will not stop until residents step up, educate their young people, work with law enforcement, and report the offenders.

It's called lonely generation. In my opinion this describes our children I have an 18 year old.

What is it with America? Aren't kids like barely even in school right now? There's some kinda pandemic going on or something, a year of nonsense and y'all still finding time to go shoot up some schools...

I know this seems sarcastic...but I'm just pointing out, seems a little strange there's suddenly a rash of school shootings going on. I know it's pretty much an American pasttime...but I mean you'd think now wouldn't really be the time...why? Kids weren't even really in school much last year at all and are even now as far as I know still partly online or whatever.

As I've pointed out before, 2019 was the worst year for mass shootings in US history. The deadliest mass shooting occurred in 2017.

These things still happened under Trump. So why are you trying to act like they didn't?

What party controlled the cities with the most shootings deaths?

Please comeback with your findings.....and why you’re at it, why don’t you include cities with the most homeless, overdoses and crime in general.

So, as I understand it...a student takes a shot at a cop and wounds him in the leg.
Cop returns fire and either kills or wounds the student.
4 outside bystanders are shot and killed in the crossfire.

The same reason they replaced the pipeline with trucks,trains and boats to save the environment. No coincidence the. shipping lines got a large piece of the action during the last "stimulus". It's all about the money and they don't care if your left right up or down.

Doesn’t that seem strange? That 4 bystanders got killed? Were there a ton of people standing around, and the cop was a really really bad shot? Seems strange.

The story has changed, as of this morning:

A student opened fire on officers responding to a report of a possible gunman at a Tennessee high school Monday, and police shot back and killed him, authorities said. The shooting wounded an officer and comes as the community reels from off-campus gun violence that has left three other students dead this year.

Police found the student in a bathroom at Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, a city about 180 miles (290 kilometers) east of Nashville, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David B. Rausch said at a news conference. They ordered the student to come out, but he wouldn't comply, and that's when he reportedly opened fire, Rausch said. Police fired back.

The student died at the school, and the officer was taken into surgery after being shot at least once in the upper leg, authorities said. The officer was expected to recover, and no one else was hurt.

Shooter was the only death...after he started shooting police officers...wounding one in the leg.

Quite a different story from the original multiple-fatality shooting story.

I notice that the shooter has still not been identified (at least in the sources I read this morning).

This case is really being handled very differently.

The OP blamed Biden fur this shooting. I simply pointed out that Trump also had his fair share of mass shootings. If you're going to berate me for pointing out throwing out stats, why don't you also berate the OP for saying this whole thing is the President's fault?

It really shouldn't be considered strange about a sudden rash of school

Just to help clear something up, there was not 4 bystanders shot yesterday, those 4 students were killed in the past few months starting in January.

Also, just a few hours after the schooling at the school, police responded to a drive by shooting just a mile away. That is not being widely reported.

As for there not being more information, I am wondering if the student from yesterday could have been involved in one of the other 4 deaths. If all the recent violence is gang related, could be what happened.
