If there was ever a perfect board game it would be Monopoly... Well not anymore..

with rewards for in-game actions such as rescuing a puppy or shopping local among the options. Other cards would penalize players for forgetting to recycle or blasting music too late at night.

You would think after 80 years of board game success there would be no need for change. These changes are silly too.
It makes me sad to think that even something as simple as Monopoly can’t be left alone..

Who wants to go in a time machine back to 1988 with me?

Sounds like the social credit system version. So even board games are becoming brainwashing now, grrrrrrrr!

Dude my mother bought Ms. Monopoly for my kids and i got 4 boys! The female players are supposed to get extra $$ when you pass go and there are femenist cards in chance and community chest that reward differently based on gender. I took a black marker to all those cards and we just play it the correct way, where the money is paid out the same regardless of gender.

The streets have all been replaced with inventions by women, which is not as big of a deal because im a fan of knowledge and educating the kids is always a plus to me. So i actually kind of enjoy that bit as a fan of history. Pkus i have kept bits from other sets over the years since they are metal and i love and collect all things metal.

The penalizing for failing to recycle im all for it. Humans should be more responaible anyways for their waste disposal. Im a bit of a militant waste reductionist myself. Im all for banning plastic shopping bags or just surcharging for them instead and applying the funds generated to ecosystem cleanups.

I dont care about endangered species that much though. Especially not in favor of stopping developments for niche sub-species animals when there are still plenty of species within thise families across the Earth. As if the world will stop just because a variation of bird or mouse specific to a region no longer exist.

Does it come with tents to place on properties now too, oh and broken down RVs. It needs to have the broken down RV to place as well.

I wonder if the "chance" cards are going to allow for burning down another players property too?

Honestly this one doesn’t sound too bad by modern PC culture changing standards. I’ve got a 25-30 year old chump that may have moved in with his grandfather down the street from me. Every time he drives by his car is obnoxiously rattling and everyone in the neighborhood can hear it from inside their homes. We live in an otherwise quiet community. If Monopoly can help raise awareness for the level of douchebaggery jack wads like him are...I have no problem with that. I have no problem with encouraging recycling either. Now if they turn all the characters and street names into gender neutral socialist icons.....I’d have a problem with that.

Serious question...

I found that game so boring that I was never able to finish.

There's already hundreds, if not thousands, of different Monopoly variations but you're going to draw the line at them updating Community Chest cards to be more contemporary?

Besides, Hasbro has shown they'll milk the franchise for all it's worth. I'm sure you'll still be able to purchase Monopoly Classic.

On a less serious note, has anyone actually bought a copy of basic Monopoly since the 80s? I'm pretty sure when you buy a house it just comes with an old copy that's missing half the houses tucked in a closet that will henceforth be designated the game closet for all time.

Exactly. This is just like those people who complained when Dr. Seuss' estate decided they were no longer going to publish a few obscure books.

I guarantee nobody getting upset over this has even played Monopoly in at least a decade. And even then 99% of all Monopoly games are never even finished. 50% due to boredom and the other 50% due to table flipping.

This is just people looking for a reason to complain.

Monopoly is pure capitalism-critic, I wonder why capitalists are so prone about it.

Think about it: everyone loses who cannot grab most valuable streets as fast as possible and plasters them with houses/hotel. One person hoardes the money. Thats pure capitalism. And every child learns to hate that and to implement house rules, to give players a chance who came bad out of the first two-three rounds of buying-frenzy.

Even kids understand that the pure rules are gamebreaking.

And they take that with them, keep it in their minds, grow up to be adults and then they see the impossible amount of hoarded money billionaires and mega-companies have. No one who ever played Monopoly (its even in the game's name! That is not the goal, it was always the warning) likes to play along any more.
