So..
HONOLULU — The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has cancelled Hawaii's tsunami watch after it was determined a huge earthquake in a remote area between New Zealand and Tonga posed no threat to the islands.

But the tsunami threat is still a serious issue for multiple places including New Zealand, Columbia, Ecuador, Fiji etc

It’s concerning to me of the the swarm of activity happening in the area still..

Still got to be carful-It won't just be one wave but a series.

And 64cm is still almost getting dangerous because the water is flowing fast with some force-here is a tsunami danger guide:

Tsunami warning here in NZ too.

Costal areas evacuated. Everyone just milling around in the sunshine on all the high points, and watching the coastline.

I've never experienced an earthquake but my heart is in my mouth every time we get a Tsunami warning somewhere in the world.

I hope the damage is minimal.

Seems I recall Japan had a series recently near Fukishima. An old Army buddy I know that worked with me for years had a theory these things happen in sequence opposite of earlier big ones. North South of the Rim fits but NZ should cause something over here in America maybe Alaska. So based on that and a lot of actually seeing that happen, I am looking for something big in the coming days over here in America.

Lets see if that theory holds out or is as I hope, just a coincidence.

I wonder what it would be like to be in a boat over the top of one of these massive undersea earthquakes?

Would it be perceptible at the surface, and if so what would it be like?

I've only been in one earthquake (well, three, but only one I could 'feel' or was aware of) and it was a most unpleasant experience. It was totally NOT what I expected at all! I expected the ground to move up and down (too many movies I guess), but that's not what happened. The ground and the buildings started moving side to side, and it wasn't a fast motion either. It was very slow, and very rhythmic. I was on about the 25th floor of a concrete hotel in Lima, Peru at the time.

I looked out my balcony at all the tall buildings around and thought there would be no way to escape something like that. Not even running outside would help much. Most helpless feeling I've ever experienced! Fortunately, there was no serious damage, but it sure spooked the crap out of me! I talked to some of the locals shortly afterwards and they were like..."Oh yeah, it was just another earthquake, happens all the time here." Well, screw that noise! No thanks!

I have been through a couple as well. Nothing big mind you. But the first time it happened I kinda freaked out. I was in bed and the quake hit. I watched it cross the room popping up floor tiles as it went by. It was like someone was rolling a pipe under the house. You could see the outline of it as it passed. It was, and is to this day, one of the strangest things I have ever seen.

But that is also why the ground sways from side to side. In the bedrock where the quake actually happens it is a high frequency/low amplitude event, like a hammer hitting an anvil. That shock wave travels up to the surface where it finds soft soil and clay which just shakes like a bowl of jello. There it assumes a lower frequency but much higher amplitude.

Of course the density of water makes it great for transmitting that wave force long distances. It also provides another feature of wave form - it can go around corners to a certain degree. It would be pretty cool stuff if it didn't kill so many people when it happened.

I've said this many times, and I'll say it again.

There are always Earthquakes leading up to Equinoxes. We got one coming up soon, March 20.
