Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and two former associates have been sentenced to three years in jail - two of them suspended - for corruption.
Sarkozy, 66, was found guilty of trying to bribe a magistrate, Gilbert Azibert, by offering a prestigious job in Monaco in return for information about a criminal inquiry into his political party.
Sarkozy's ex-lawyer Thierry Herzog and Azibert got the same sentence.
Sarkozy can serve the term at home.

I wonder if anybody could just serve his sentence at home like Escobar or Sarkozy.

Maybe he pissed off the wrong person? Christine Lagarde seems to do the "career bureaucrat who toes the line" much better, as her career has been on the up-and-up even though she's been involved in shady scandals...

Lagarde was incapable at the IMF. She even admitted it

One law for them another for us , he gets two years suspended and the one year on licence with a tag.

Any pleb caught trying to bribe a judge would be eating porridge by now.

Sarko may still have strings he could pull to cause trouble for judges and prosecutors if they put him in the Maison Greybar.

All of this stuff makes one wonder, not if, but just how badly the justice system is corrupted in many countries.

He used to be great pals with Merkel. I wonder if she'll visit him while he is in 'prisoner' status.

Cheers

This is why the French have revolutions every now and then.

Hint: they don't end in house arrest for treason.

How exactly do you serve a prison sentence at home. Are you still allowed to do everything you do at home but you aren’t allowed to leave ? Ridiculous

At least he was convicted. In the US the big criminals never even see the court room.

Seems to set a bad precedent for other leaders of France “do whatever you want while you have the power, you’ll get to retire and be left alone in your house when it’s all said and done” a reply to: Hellas
