I had been meaning to make this thread for a while the army has decided to change the training of new recruits. First let me explain what the shark attack is this is your first day of training. You arive on your bus to meet a whole bunch of friendly drill sargeants who came to great you. However these drill sargeants being helpful want to start your training immediately. This consists of alot of corective criticism in a loud manner to make sure you here them alot of running alot of lifting alot of pushups.

Well the brilliant people in charge has determined this was not hard enough and they wanted to promote team building. There idea instead of shark attack make them run 100 meters or in most cases walk. Then they play a memory game because nothing like getting people to act in a military manner by playing a game. Heres an article on the change:

www.military.com...

Sadly i think this is really going to effect the quality of military we eventually end up with. These men and women will be used to telling officers how they feel about their decisions. And we all know in combat you definately help your fellow soldiers by deciding what you will and wont do.

I think this video kind of sums up my feelings on this.

We wouldn't want to let these poor snowflake recruits to get PTSD on their first day in the Army. They would get benefits for life from such harsh treatment.

They want to recruit brainwashed Soy Boys and Girls.

Who else will shoot American citizens?

Sadly snowflakes are winning everywhere even being a man in basic training is now discouraged.

still think the part that shocked me the most a new recruit talking to the sargeant major of the army while not at parade rest. I half expected the private to offer him some gum or take a seat because he was getting tired. I know when i was in the military no drill seargeant would have allowed you to talk to the seargeant major like that. Private doesnt even know hes supposed to address him by his rank yet how could he hes playing memory games.

What a joke, one of my most memorable moments from basic was the shark attack. It sucked, my contacts were confiscated, so I couldn’t see anything, just angry blurry huge drill sergeants yelling and screaming. Bags couldn’t touch the ground, people running around everywhere, and then that bus ride where they just stare at you and probably smiling because they know what is about to happen.

Loved it all, I thought it was great and kept trying not to laugh. They smoked us all day until about midnight. Only breaks were chow and refilling the canteens. They turned the heat on in the barracks and we all had piles of sweat and moisture under us by the end of the day. And tears, grown men, huge dudes, were crying, even for their mothers. It was wonderful.

In AIT we had drill sergeants too but they weren’t allowed to be anymore. So they put on their berets and brought out their drill SGT hats and just destroyed them. Then they pointed to their badges, drill sergeant badges, and proceeded to smoke the begeezes out of us because the hats don’t mean jack ****.

There is a time and place for this stuff, I learned so much in military schools. Basic is preparing us for war. AIT is preparing us to do our job in war. I fear the day we go to war with a nation that has a well trained standing army. It’s going to be WW2 to all over again with us getting wiped for awhile before getting back up again. Hopefully we can pick ourselves up again.

I train medics, that’s college courses and the hands on. We cannot smoke them anymore. It’s counseling now, developmental counseling. We got talked to following an IG complaint for smoking people. This includes people almost getting seriously injured with sharps, medical treatments and weapons. Now they want to stop the yelling. I don’t get it.

I remember my Shark Attack, they first made us hold our duffels over our heads for the longest time, while they singled out individuals.

I had a really small Drill Srgt walk up to me and told me to squat down to his level, as I did, another Drill Srgt walked up, a tall man and demanded I address him atanding up, as I did, the smaller Drill Srgt bellowed, "Hey! I didn't tell you to move!!"
The next few minutes consisted of my big 6'4 225lbs arse essentially doing "squats" to appease these Drill Srgts.

Fun times.

I think it's worth noting that these recruits aren't expected to fight against actual enemies.

They're being trained to protect the elite class on home soil...

It's actually a proven tactic to put those who no one wants to kill on the front lines.

They're going to come for your guns and they're going to use these Soy Boys and Girls as human shields because any American with a shred of decency will not kill a fellow American, no matter how much soy they have ingested...

The shark attack is essential training and can weed out weak recruits right then and there.

It sucks. Embrace the suck.

"Attention Taliban, This is the United States Army, we would like to have an inclusive discussion on why firing Mortars into markets is a transphobic microaggression"

"Ha Ha, American go boom."

Fun times ahead! Don't join the military would be my advice.

i went to benning.

i remember the shark attack.

but the best memory was when the drills decided to do "tag team" pt.

"hey, battle, wanna join?"

"sure! cherry pickers!" after 100, oops someone didnt do it right, back to 0. after a hundred more, "hey battle, whatcha got?"

"tag! on your backs!"

2 hours of 8 drills just passing the hat! god that sucked! and yet i smile as i tell it.

I agree im so glad i dont have to deal with what the military is becoming. i had to do 6 months of drill seargeant duty at brag. trying to get enough points for my E7. And to be honest id be ashamed to see this kind of training. The first day is about setting expectations in recruits. Your teaching them how military personel act from how to adress military personel to whats expected in maintaining a barraks. Your teaching them how to march your teaching them what will be expected of them through basic.

Honestly they are turning day one into a joke and they are creating a danger imagine teaching these kids how to use grenades or rockets without the decipline needed to maintain safe operations. Do you know how many privates i had to throw over the wall during grenade practice after they would throw the pin and drop the grenade? But at least we knew who to watch out for because we saw how they handled themselves under stress. Now its just a guessing game because these people are not pushed to excel they will also never hit their potential. They will always lack the discipline to excel beyond mediocre.

I'm not military but it's quite obvious how important it is to harden a soldier against loud, distracting, and disruptive, or destructive actions. If you cry about being yelled at by strangers then what are you going to do when mortars, rpgs, and effective fire target your position? I'm not a "boomer" but I can see the military going downhill from softening them up. Male or female or lampshade.

That’s a great point. During my final medic table, smoke, screaming, loud soundtrack, lights flashing, blood being sprayed everywhere, extremely stressful. I had no idea I was actually shaking until after I completed my evaluation. It sucked because they front loaded honor graduate candidates and really gave it to us. Luckily I passed.

We used to do this with our own tables. Now on the last two, even the first one a little bit. No sound, no lights, no stress, just silence. It changes the entire dynamic and now we hear stories of Soldiers freezing on their first patient. I’ve only shaken on one patient, when I had to start resuscitating my son after a 6 minute seizure.

It’s not a good solution.
