It actually had a carved limestone reverse swastika motif on the front porch...as it was built by German craftsmen when little Adolph was still wearing lederhosen.
Slightly embarrassing...but part of it's innocent charm.

When I got the place in the 80's...it had had only two owners since 1901...and been converted into a two-family in the 50's.
A lot of the work was 'undoing' crap previous owners had done to it.

Oh, yeah, I do remember those pics. That was a cool entryway.

And the undoing part I totally get. Stripping white paint from all the woodwork, removing spray on popcorn ceiling, tearing out wall to wall shag carpet and updating the circa 1980's bathrooms/kitchen.

I jest but I wouldn't give it up. It's all original plaster, Tiffany stained glass windows, hardwood floors, detailed moldings and a monstrous kitchen.

You have any pics of yours? I'd love to see the craftsmanship.

If you are ever in Milwaukee check out the Pabst Mansion. It is right up your alley.
All those things you listed and more.

I've been there. Great place.

I'm a total wacko, not only do I have an old home but I also pay people to stay in/visit their old homes.

She also has me using farrow and ball in every room. Actual pigment, great color, stooopid price. I want a small place south of the border and I will never look back. God willing....

The first 2 minutes of this clip describes how I felt when I found out the price. Of course she a “real” job not like this gypsy.

Seriously tho. Congrats. That is good news.

I believe that, though I envy your faucet above the cooking area for filling pots.

Didn't own the house long enough for big money sinks,it was pretty much finished renovating with the basic things but keeping/remounting the old hardwood floors, doors and ceilings.

LOL, probably one of the cheaper extras in the kitchen. But it's great.

Martens on and in the roof at night. They have multiple nests in different houses. And recently trash pandas too. I don't trust the ducks and beavers either.

I'm satisfied with everything else, the faucet would be the dot on the letter i that makes up the otherwise complete alphabet of my kitchen tools.

I'm even willing to drag gas bottles so I can use my gas cooker instead of those ceran electric things and induction kills my ears.
