How conscious were you of future impact for your actions at 13?

Hmmmm... I have no idea how to even qualify or quantify such a thing. Probably within the normal range for any kid that age. I'd like to think so anyway.

I sure as hell knew better than to hate on people for the color of their skin. I sure as hell knew better than to make violent threats to anyone. I sure as hell knew better than to invoke my dad's name into my nonsense. Especially if I was saying that my police chief father would use his official position and resources against anyone for racial violence. I sure as hell knew I'd get an ass whooping if I had ever done such a thing.

However, as I have already stated, youth is the best excuse. But it only goes so far. It doesn't change anything that she's done. It doesn't make her words and threats and hate okay. It just means she has some hard lessons to learn... and hopefully she does.

That's kind of the issue. Racism, and other similar behaviors, aren't genetic, they're learned.

Exactly.

And this girl added violent threats to the list, including her police chief father in an official police vehicle in those threats.

She learned that somewhere. I don't know that she learned this from her parents, but she obviously didn't learn better from her parents either. There was a failure in parenting somewhere.

That's the thing ... all we have were her Tweets in isolation. What was going on around them? That fuller picture would make a better understanding.

Was she in a fight with another kid, for example? It doesn't fully excuse it, but things can be said in anger that you'd never say at other times. Was it sarcasm? Without that context you don't know, neither do I, and neither does anyone else. It could also be exactly what it looks like.

Also, seeing your post to AM, you're saying she learned it from her parents, but at 13, you go with your peers a lot. What if we was running with the wrong peer group and was acting out to look tough to them?

The American People will not and never would knowingly adopt Socialism.

Yet under the name of 'Liberalism' they will adopt every single facet and every fragment of the Socialist Program.

Until one day America will awake to find itself a Socialist Nation, without even realizing how it happened!

Uh, okay. That really has nothing to do with what I said.

Exactly.

Not saying that her parents taught her this but someone did and it's their responsibility to address that type of behavior.

Sure it would -- but it wouldn't make it any better. It is what it is. Absolutely vile and hateful.

It is exactly what it looks like no matter what prompted her tirade. We can blame youth for doing so, but we cannot make excuses for what she did. It was and is wrong.

No, I did NOT say she learned it from her parents. To quote myself:

She learned that somewhere. I don't know that she learned this from her parents, but she obviously didn't learn better from her parents either. There was a failure in parenting somewhere.

She may very well have learned it elsewhere... perhaps while unsupervised on the internet for example...

I did say that her parents did not teach her better either. Obviously. Hopefully now they will. For her benefit if nothing else.

Uh, actually, the two go hand in hand - they're learned.

In Horace Mann we see the beginnings of a new idea in education: “By the word ’education’ I mean much more than the ability to read, write and keep common accounts. I comprehend under this noble word such a training of the body as shall build it up with robustness and vigor, at once protecting it from disease and enabling it to act informatively upon the crude substances of nature–to turn a wilderness into cultivated fields, forests into ships, or quarries and clay pits into villages and cities. I mean also to include such a cultivation of the intellect as shall enable it to discover those permanent and mighty laws which pervade all parts of the created universe whether material or spiritual. This is necessary because if we act in obedience to these laws all the resistless forces of nature become our auxiliaries and cheer us on to certain prosperity and triumph. But if we act in contravention or defiance to these laws, then nature resists, thwarts, baffles us, and in the end it is just as certain that she will overwhelm us with ruin as it is that God is stronger than man.” - Marx

No it's a thread about Racism - At the head of the times, dreams are sailing. When the most beautiful youth meets a magnificent era, what kind of brilliance will it bloom? From the global network of Beidou satellites to the rush of domestically-made large aircraft, from the ascendant of the digital economy to the rapid development of technological innovation, behind countless achievements, the efforts of young people are condensed and the wisdom of young people shines. - Xi Jingping

Spare the Rod spoil the Child, at least by her saying something publicly thats others found unacceptable - her parents are the ones being inspected, for going around shooting black people - "We are left, however, as parents of a scared, regretful child who has and will continue to suffer the consequences of her poor and inexcusable actions."

- If it was my child I would force her to watch Max Cloud the action movie for Kid's about interracial relationships and force her to watch every cringe worthy moment of the terrible acting. Then spank her ass send her to her room and force her to watch it again and again and again. Until it was lodged in her mind that you do not spread racial intolerance into the education system.

There's a lot to be said for Match-sticks, cello-tape & sleep deprivation..

Thankfully I don't have kids! Otherwise it would be here you go young lady, re-education begins now!

So I have an update to this story, but first I wanted to take this chance to thank all the members who posted above me for adding their thoughts.

I apologize for not responding to them , I was highly preoccupied at the Time and just didn't get a chance to..

Ok ,

Here is the update,

A month or so later and both parents, the chief of police, and his wife a vice principal at the high school, are both on leave from their positions.

NAUGATUCK — Two high-ranking borough administrators are on leave as officials continue investigations into racist and violent social media posts that surfaced last month.

Screenshots of social media posts made by a teenage daughter of Police Chief Steven Hunt and Naugatuck High School Associate Principal Johnna Hunt became public Jan. 22 and circulated on social media. The posts were made in 2019 after Steven Hunt was sworn in as chief.

Bolding mine.

As that's not enough they are also going to investigate the police chiefs impact on the police force for the two years prior to these posts coming to light.

The borough hired two law firms — Karsten & Tallberg, LLC and Michelson, Kane, Royster & Barger, P.C. — to conduct separate investigations.

In a later interview, Hess said the investigations will delve into Steven Hunt’s conduct, how the police department has been running before and under his command, department policies, and other areas. The borough is paying the firms about $175 an hour, he said.

This Cancel Culture is extremely dangerous and I certainly hope none of you have a 13 year old child make politically incorrect private messages to a "friend" that surface two years later and cost you and your wife good jobs that you worked hard to get.

I'm not going to defend what the 13 year old said.. it is pretty indefensible, but her age and maturity should be taken into account when metering out a punishment.

This is insane overkill in my humble opinion.

Respectfully,
~meathead

P.S.

Forgive me again of I don't respond tonight, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and I have my work cut out for me gathering up all the paperwork from my surgery 14 years ago.
