In 2019, there was NO Covid-19: The number of USA deaths: 2,854,838

At 2 weeks left in 2020, and a supposedly catastrophic virus pandemic raging the past 10 months, the number of USA deaths stands at: 2,835,533

The source was the CDC website before they scrubbed the numbers.

And how do those numbers work with the argument that the lockdowns are causing more deaths* than they are saving? *: usually the argument involves the mention of "suicides", but a lack of quality health care for other health problems has also been named in relation to the term "lockdown" (often it is overlooked that this has less to do with lockdown measures such as social distancing, masks and closed stores, shops, etc. and their effect on the economical situation of people, which is what the 'suicide'-argument is all about)

I think some people are going to have to make up their minds which argument or claim they wanna go with, since running with both creates a bit of a contradiction in argumentation (of course, anything can be argued away with some construction, such as 'the number of deaths due to lockdowns has increased but the number of deaths due to other causes has decreased so now we still end up with more or less the same number of deaths as 2019'; something like that, but that just sounds a little too convenient to argue the contradiction away like that).

If your numbers are to be believed, neither Corona nor the lockdowns have caused any significant increase in total number of deaths compared to 2019 (and this can be caused by being cancelled out by a decrease in deaths due to other causes or because those deaths due to the earlier mentioned 2 causes were never significant enough to begin with). So the argument that we shouldn't have any lockdowns because they do more harm than good is incompatible with the numbers you just gave, at least in terms of death (I guess someone can argue the lockdowns also do other types of harm, possibly making convenient use of the fact that it's hard to put a number on psychological harm, making that form or part of the argument or claim more unassailable but also a bit unverifiable with statistics and numbers).

the numbers don’t show that lock downs are saving lives, but they have cost jobs- but no cost to that for those who aren’t struggling and industries don’t exist anymore. Sure we artificially destroyed industries that were thriving and countless livelihoods, but you’re fine so what’s the big deal?
