My wife is the manager of a credit union and has been doing auto financing for years.
I don't even have to talk to the car dealers.

She does all the negotiations and I've left dealerships before almost feeling sorry for the sales manager.....almost.

Literally the worst investment you can make!

Buying new works, if you get the thing paid for ASAP then keep it. Most vehicles are consumables not assets.

The person who needs to trade every year is only benefiting the dealership.

You get what you pay for. And Ford Escapes are trash.

I recently got a 2021 Escape for my company car. Yep, I can agree, they pretty much suck! First three times I went to drive it, it had a dead battery. Thing had 3 miles on it when I got it (lowest I've ever seen on a new car). Then some crazy electrical stuff went wrong with it, computer freaked out and started turning random stuff on and off when no one was even in the car and generally spazzing out. I parked it about 5 months ago and haven't driven it since.

Yup...
She's looking at a Subaru outback.
$40k
0% for 63 months
$645 a month

Ugh

I don't wanna....

Maybe I can talk her into a Ford escape...
A bargain at $30k

Personally I'd go with a Ford Mustang!
