If she had survived but the child didn't, it would still be assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, etc.

Was the father the guy with the knife?
Maybe he chose life in prison over a life of forced labor in the form of child support?
I feel like this story is missing important details.

Leftists are finally being intellectually consistent, but it's in a way that exposes how sick they really are.

Wow...are you a hard-core criminal whom for some reason keeps wanting to make more inane excuses?... Not wanting to pay for child support is for you an okay excuse so you can beat up/assault your girlfriend and kill your unborn child?...
In real life not wanting to pay for child support is no excuse to beat up/assault your girlfriend and to murder your unborn child...

I'd like to see the actual NY criminal law, something NY Official at least, instead of twitter links.
2. When more than one sentence of imprisonment is imposed on a person for two or more offenses committed through a single act or omission, or through an act or omission which in itself constituted one of the offenses and also was a material element of the other, the sentences, except if one or more of such sentences is for a violation of section 270.20 of this chapter, must run concurrently.

The above sentences are for New York.
So in New York if a pregnant woman is beaten to a pulp and she survives but her unborn child doesn't. Even if she wanted her unborn child to live the murderer could be facing from a 7 years to around 12 years sentence if the judge decides to give a light sentence. Or at most the murderer could be facing just around 27 years sentence in total. And with how 'lenient" the law is against criminals in places like New York the murderer could only be facing a lot less than 27 years since in New York the law states that parole-eligible inmates should have a hearing every 2 years.

If I'm reading the law correctly, it makes no difference.
New York Consolidated Laws, Penal Law - PEN § 70.25 Concurrent and consecutive terms of imprisonment
He would have been serving the sentence for the second degree abortion at the same time as the one for murder, so it would not add any time to his sentence.
